McCarthy is currently throwing picks to third string cornerbacks who may not make the team. Darnold just yesterday layered his pass between 5 first team defenders to a fullback. In what world is McCarthy more talented than Darnold right now?

Talent is a very subjective question. By some measures I'm certain that McCarthy is more talented right now. Athleticism, arm strength, mental capacity and much more. Which QB would give us our best chance to win week 1 of this season. Tough to say, but I would go with McCarthy even though I would bet on Darnold getting the start.

I watched McCarthy's throws and to be honest, they were basic college passes. Nothing stood out. You could watch dozens of other college QBs making the same throws. Darnold on the other hand in the PSU game did stand out. Darnold's 2022 NFL highlights demonstrate that he's a top thrower in the NFL. He obviously has turnover issues which he needs to fix but among NFL QBs in terms of throwing ability only, I agree with Shanahan that he has one of the top NFL arms.

Are you finally acknowledging that McCarthy has a stronger arm than Darnold? I did not advocate drafting Milton because he sucks as an NFL QB prospect. McCarthy is a very good NFL QB prospect that also has an extremely strong arm. There is more to being a QB than throwing fastballs. The QB position is unbelievably complex and hard to play.

From all reports in OTAs, McCarthy only has a fastball. He has no touch, can't layer his throws, is inaccurate and has been throwing INTs to 3rd stringers. What separates McCarthy from Milton at this point?

You're relying on your hopes and dreams that McCarthy is more talented when by all indications from all reporters at OTAs, Darnold is by far the more talented QB and the #1 QB. Darnold is getting the vast majority of reps with Addison and JJefferson. If McCarthy is more talented right now, why is he not getting even one single rep with the first teamers?

McCarthy is young and still has a long way to go to be a competent NFL QB.

This time of year the coaching staff are trying different things and the whole offense has not even been installed yet. Who is more talented has nothing to do with which QB gets more reps right now.

McCarthy may very well not start week 1, that does not mean Darnold is the more talented QB.

McCarthy is indeed young, but Darnold has NEVER been a fully "competent" NFL QB in his time in the league. The ceiling is much higher for McCarthy, whether he starts this season or not. Darnold has been on 4 teams in 6 years for a reason.

Should be an interesting rest of the summer. We shall see soon enough who starts week one.

That is impressive but he only threw that ball 40 yards. Are you saying Darnold has never thrown the ball beyond 40 yards?

I still don't understand how that shows that McCarthy's arm is "way stronger"

Darnold has been a competent QB. He was more competent than Kirk ever was in 2022 with a 0.20 EPA/db with one above average WR.

Coller said they threw the ball at the same velocity. Zulgud said he *thinks* McCarthy has the "far superior arm" but lacks touch and those throws won't work in the NFL. McCarthy has only shown so far in OTAs that he can throw fastballs. He is lacking touch.

If Darnold threw uncatchable fastballs throughout OTAs, would Zulgud change his mind on who has the "far superior arm?" I don't know how Zulgud defines "far superior arm" but obviously in that clip, Zulgud says Darnold is still the far superior QB (right now).
