Why a Darnold Resurgence is Unlikely - QB Busts

Look, I never said McCarthy had a weaker arm than Darnold. I said neither has a cannon. I also have seen tape of several off-platform throws McCarthy threw at Michigan where he threw ducks. I am of the opinion that McCarthy is more talented than Darnold, but there are things Darnold does better at this point in his career. I don't care what video you have of OTAs. McCarthy deserves better than being judged on just irrelevant OTAs and the combine. I wasn't aware they timed the velocity of off-platform throws at the combine. News to me.

I watch Darnold & McCarthy play real football. I've seen more game tape on McCarthy and Darnold than you can imagine. And have seen Darnold play live. I need to prove NOTHING to you or provide with you nothing. Your little game of thinking you are the all knowing and wanting to turn everything into a contest of who is more righteous, not my trip. What I would like to know is if Darnold can extend plays here via movement or even taking on occasion where Kirk was Captain Checkdown. You make a good point though, ability to evade only buys time. The big difference between Darnold with the Vikings and Darnold with the Jets/Panthers is that he's got better receiving talent to get open. If the extra sacks end up cancelling out drives at the same rate, then it's a wash. If that extra time bought means more first downs forcing defenses to adjust a bit. I don't know the answer to that, but I think that right there is the key to whether or not Darnold will be a good fit for this offense.

I beg to differ, KOC dialed up his fair share of bombs, not as much last year once Kirk went down (at least to my eyes), but he calls them... sometimes at very inopportune times. The Buffalo game at 3 and 4th and 1 come to mind in 2022. He called 2 in a row when he needed to keep moving the ball.

Every stat McCarthy put up in college was spectacular, jut low volume. Every number he put up at the NFL combine and pro day was amazing. Particularly arm strength. 1 MPH velocity less than Josh Allen and strong arm QB Milton. I know almost nothing about Love. You say he has a cannon and maybe he does, but I would bet sight unseen that McCarthy has more of a cannon. About the only gripes against McCarthy are some minor footwork issue and too many fastballs and not enough touch. I'm feeling good about our future.

If you wanted a QB with a "strong arm" why not draft Joe Milton instead who set the all time record? I don't know, maybe there's more to being a QB than throwing fastballs?
