possibly but how often are we letting big money players actually leave when they have enough value on the open market to warrant getting a decent pick?
so in your scenario would you recommend not signing a Greenard to ensure you have a comp pick coming in 2025 for losing Hunter?
I get what you are saying but you don't just wake up and have enough talent currently on your roster at the top that you are comfortable enough to let walk because you have in house replacements. That takes 5 years or more of successful drafting and development. There's also an element of drafting, developing and retaining your own players and trying to win with them which is what we saw from 2015-2019
