Ya I would have kept our key pieces (JJ/Darrisaw/Hunter/Oniell) and rookie contract guys while trying to trade everyone else basically Poles style. Get as many assets and future cap space as possible then start building up from there. Not trying to tank necessarily just making sure when you sign guys etc. it is with a long term focus. 

I actually used over the cap calculator to get my number of 37 million so I think there may have been some movement since that article (Rookies and Oniell?). If you go with that and the spotrac 40 million listed that's essentially the same thing to me and I still feel the same way about how to use it.



As I was getting at I think I just have a different perspective on what is smart in terms of cap usage compared to other fans. I know we CAN do a lot of stuff by manipulating the current year and pushing some hits out etc. but I don't think we should for the most part. It wouldn't be difficult to patch up holes and spend a little while keeping Cousins to make another push with our future finally looking brighter in that sense. It would just be pointless imo as we have seen the last chunk of years and even if not put us in a horrible spot puts us in a worse spot. To me you only keep taking this approach if you think you are a true contender which we aren't at this time so there is no need to waste resources for that year.

Instead I think we should try as much as possible not to add too much to those years unless it's a long term impact type of player. Everything should be based on 2025 and beyond not next year when we should be eating a majority of the final cap hits hopefully.



Ya the Wilfs seem like the bigger issue overall which is too bad because you can't just move on from them. It sucks a lot. If KAM can pull of getting a Tannenhill or other fill in type QB very cheap while drafting the QB of the future I will have a lot more confidence in this regime as I was getting at. I give them credit for not just pushing chips in after the 13 win season, they earned some trust with that seasons performance and started the rebuild process instead of continuing the same old path (even if slower than I hoped). We definitely need to avoid those risky contract like Davenport agreed.

At the end of the day I am hoping we see a plan that is more focused on 2025 and beyond than the current year. That means limit pushing out cap as much as possible within reason. As you get at we can spend some so if a legit stud would sign here on a decent deal you can pull the trigger. Just no point in spending on a one year stop gap type of player imo. My guess is the Wilfs strongly disagree with that idea though as you get at lol.

You're not wrong here. I've been clear that I'm fine on a 1-year cheap deal, but I would not get in a bidding war for his services. I don't think KAM would either. I'd go draft and cheap bridge and take the 28M dead cap hit and call it a day. I don't see Kirk getting a huge deal at his age coming off of that injury, but teams can get irrational about QBs. I hope this time it's not us.

Got it, so Kirk thinks that. We'll see. I could see Atlanta or SF going after him. But I really don't see much competition. He's old and his warts are well known at this point.. But if he can get 40.. wow.

He will bring 40 plus easy. Many QBs are going to be in the 50-60 plus range next year.

Denver will be in cap hell as will Cleveland so those are out.

I could maybe see New England for a few years, Tampa, the Giants and maybe a few others.

Carolina?

They are definitely feeling the sting of overdrafting a prospect.
