Kirk, Or A Potential First Round QB in 2024?

Well you aren't wrong about the void years moving back if we keep Cousins/Hunter I believe but that is sort of what I was getting at in hurting the future. I am not a huge fan of the path we have taken so far under this regime but I do believe a lot of that comes from ownership and wanting to stay competitive. If you view it as a legitimate 4 year turn around plan with staying competitive as the main goal we are set up for 2025 to be a big season (this year and next being when we really turn over roster and take the cap hits). I just prefer to keep it that way and not push basically anything forward other than what we have already. Let the QBOTF learn and take his lumps next season and go into 2025 and beyond looking to build off it (especially the following 3 seasons while QB is cheap). I want as many resources for that push as possible and I just don't see the point in wasting some next season instead for another playoff push but not likely to be winning once there type season. I will have more confidence in this regime if that appears to be closer to the vision than making another push to "compete" next season.

From what I saw we are currently schedule for 37 million next season in cap. However Hunter, Cousins, Risner, Hicks, KJ, Powell, Bullard and other backup players are not under contract either which will leave a lot of holes to fill taking up a chunk of cap. If Cousins and Hunter sign for cap hits of 25 mil we would likely need to do more just to fill out the roster (even with the void years already pushing some back and moving on from Smith). If we want to make another addition or two because we are trying to be competitive that again means more into the future. We also need to remember future years are likely to include JJ/Darrisaw at higher prices too. 

I do think Hunter is likely to still be very good the next 4 seasons or so making it more logical to keep him (along with defense already being an issue talent wise). We are in a position to not push much back and still have some room going this route and a rookie QB/cheap Bridge. It's that extra 25 mil from Cousins that would likely end up on the future that just isn't worth it imo. Even though it's probably a good price for him and better than what we have been paying. My perspective tends to be a bit more hardcore in terms of windows of competing than others. Everything you say is basically right, I just don't get the point in 10-7 with a quick playoff loss with Cousins compared to 7-10 with a rookie when the latter route sets up the future and a potential window to truly compete better (while allowing the rookie to grow and be more prepared during said window). 

Why? He can do the job just fine if they put the right pieces around him. And if they can’t put the right piece’s around him then I would look at replacing them and not one position that’s actually working.

Of course it is. Because we all know that TOP prevents the other team from scoring.  But I've never actually seen stats for that.  Although supposedly it's been posted 42 times on this forum, somewhere.  

BTW, the Jets won TOP the other night,  31:51 to 28:09.  How did that work out for them? 

You are talking separate issues. Yes the front office needed to do a better job than they did but his contract didn’t stop the team from getting anyone they wanted to. You are just blaming the lack of proper roster management on him rather than blaming the ones who should be held responsible.

You are incorrect. Your scenario only works if we have no QB for the last 5 years and direct snapped to a RB.

At the time case and Teddy both wanted 20 million and case got 30 so it’s 10 million a year. Teddy signed a 3 year 63 million dollar contract with Carolina. Now that was a fleece.

He only failed to meet your expectations and some fickle fans.

I personally didn’t want them to sign him. My choice was to stick with Case but I was definitely wrong in thinking that.

It was a rough estimate lol. The point is he has cost us nearly 200 million so saying that didn’t prevent other signings is ridiculous. You can’t name 3 other players with larger cap hits over the entire span. He has been paid near top of the league but hasn’t been nearly that type of impact on the field. Also Teddy only signed that after a cheap contract with the saints.

No, he failed to meet the value of the contract by almost everyones measure. In terms of expectations those with $ on the line thought we had a top 2-4 type team lol. It isn’t just fickle fans that understood the talent he had around him early on here. He simply couldn’t get it done and choked the only time he ever made it past wild card weekend in his career.
