Instead of posting a new thread I thought I could pose the question here. With where the Vikings figure to be drafting and the current mocks/draft boards they might have the ability to draft the best or second or third best defensive prospect in the whole class. There’s no question we’re severely lacking defensive talent.
Should this be considered or is it a QB no matter what in your eyes?
At this point, I'm in the boat of taking a QB and DL (meaning DE/EDGE or DT) prospect with our Rd 1 and Rd 2 picks and I'm wide open to where we take them: could be a QB in Rd 1, or could be a DL prospect in Rd 1 and QB in Rd 2, so to me, I'm personally not "locked-in" to a QB in Rd 1 no matter what. While I do think there is some solid "value" in the EDGE & CB prospects, I just don't necessarily think there are a whole bunch - if any - defensive "blue chips" to where I want to spend the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th overall pick on a defensive player, or else we end up with Trae Waynes, who was an "OK" player, but felt like he was overdrafted at the time and never really materialized into the type of player you spend the 11th overall pick on.
I'm going to push back a little here. Bosa(s), Garrett, Watts were near-locks coming out and went Top 5. There are no near-locks at Edge or CB this year, but Dallas Turner, Jared Verse and the UCLA kid are absolutely Blue Chip Players.
And Parsons went 11th because nobody could figure out what position he would play. If that hadn't been a question he goes Top 5.
So there absolutely are Defenders worth taking at wherever Minnesota picks. That have All Pro potential. They just won't hit that potential right out of the gate, or maybe never.
What's so intriguing about this Draft is that the QBs are right up there, and 3 are better than any Defensive Player. The only Player rated higher than Williams or Maye is Harrison Jr. Daniels is rated higher for me than any Defender but behind a couple or Offensive Tackles.
Heck, the entire Top 10 could end up All Offense: QBs, WRs and Tackles. But there are still plenty of good Defensive Players in this Draft. Just no true Elite level guys.
