Thst said look at the defensive side. What an absolute disaster thst side of the ball is especially at dline. It is dreadfully bare as far as the cupboard goes and it looks like hunter is probably in his last year as a Viking. So who are the building blocks on defense going forward for the next 3 to 4 years? It’s hard to come up with a quick answer because that side of the ball is lacking young talent big time. Maybe Murphy, but imo he is an above average player at best. Maybe blackmon blossoms into an above average player. Maybe pace becomes better against the run and becomes a really good player. So many unknowns and guesses. Besides qb the front and a couple spots on interior oline the front office and coaches have to figure out how to get better and younger talent on defense especially up front. It has got to be in the bottom 5 for talent easily.
Kirk isn't the long-term answer - we all know that - but having him these two years has served a purpose. Getting the offense to grow together and jell, and buying time for the defense to rebuild and take shape. The blueprint was there for the competitive rebuild. The 2022 draft was a huge setback.
But here we are... Looking to next year, we're still missing a couple pieces on offense, missing an entire defense, and we don't have a quarterback. It's a hot mess.
I think we need to trade hunter at deadline and hope we can get a first from a contender needing pass rush help. I think we could even get a late round pick for Harrison. We need more picks. And possible picks to move up and get one of the two elite qbs. Assuming we don’t “earn “ the first and rights to Williams then hopefully we can get up to two however we have to for maye. After that start building the defense and try to fix the oline.
