So only 1 loss huh? Meaning a 15 game winning streak would maybe make you a believer? That's damn generous of you.
I never thought of it that way but I guess you're right! After 98, 09, 17, not to mention 99, 00, 01, 02,03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 2010, 2011, 2012.....
Now there's a comparison, 2012. Everyone thought we could run Adrian Peterson into a Super Bowl win. I remember having some of these same conversations, a win is a win right? But some of us knew we were not going to hold up in the playoffs. But the "any given Sunday" people would have nothing of it. If running Adrian Peterson up the donkey all day long worked in the regular season, surely nobody would be able to stop offensive genius Bill Muskrat in the post season!
(Enter the Ponder apologists who think we would have won if Ponder had started against GB.... NO! Good teams figure out bad teams in the playoffs!)
But I never had that "we can win it all feeling" in 2012, I had that "we'll never win in the playoffs" feeling, and we didn't. (to be fair, I feel a bit better about this year after Buffalo, but that could change. I feel like maaaaaaaaaaybe we can win a playoff game, but I sure don't feel any swagger yet.)
Now where was I..oh yeah, after 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 (Teddy's "Breakout Year" according to the Kool-Aid Krew), 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021...
Yes, I guess I AM being generous by possibly becoming a believer if we go 16-1. The Dolphins won 17 straight, why can't we?
This team has proven that you should not count them out of contested games, but my main concern still is that we have had way too many.
Hopefully, this Buffalo game was the game that kind of tied things together. They went toe to toe with a very good team being aided by very bad officiating. Their most egregious mistake as a team, in my opinion, was KOC's playcalling at the end of the 1st half, which is also correctable... That has to be a big confidence booster. So maybe we see a different team the next few weeks. Buffalo needs to be a coming out party, not an exclamation point on an improbably season.
I'm a Vikings fan, so I'll always be waiting for the gut punch, but if they walk through this next gauntlet and take control of some tough games and never give it up, that will make me more excited.
