The wins are there but the feeling isn't. In 98, 09 and 17 I was sure we were gonna win and felt we had potential to go all the way. This year, even after beating Buffalo, I'm still sure we are going to lose every game.
The '98 team was #1 in scoring and had some crushing wins, they had five games where they put up 40+ points and another three with 35+. The defense was #6 in scoring, generated 34 turnovers and held their opponents under 100 yds rushing 9 times in an era when rushing was king.
The '09 team was likewise a prolific offense finishing #2 in scoring, all though they weren't quite as dominant. While the defense was #10 in scoring, they were a better unit IMO, especially against the run where they could shut teams down.
The '17 team was a little different with it's #1 defense and Case Keenum rollercoaster, but I always felt like they could win.
This current team is nothing like the above teams. They're #8 in scoring and #14 defensively, but it feels like a house of cards to me. Always letting teams hang around, unable to take control of games and dominate, not taking advantage offensively when the defense gets the ball back in good field position. Just too many holes in this team, they allowed 175 yards rushing on Sunday and 137 the previous week with Tomlinson out.
It feels like they are dancing on the edge of a cliff, and when they fall off a lot of fans will fall with them, but not me.
