Rick wasn't terrible. But he did have a really bad stretch of Day 1 picks from 2015 to 2019 which ultimately resulted in his downfall. He had other nits which were part of the issue like the incessant accumulation of day three picks. Or swinging for the fences on such and not creating depth. As well as an odd lack of attention to the offensive line.
the Waynes, Treadwell, Hughes, Bradbury sequence over that four year span proved to be somewhat catastrophic. And the cumulative value from the 2016 to 2019 drafts has been impactful in a bad way.
Ultimately, he had a different vision for what he thought the team should be from Zim. Neither were terrible at their jobs. Just terrible together.
There's still a decent chunk of potential from 2019 to 2021.
2019, again, wasn't great unless Irv and Watts can show something this year and maybe Bisi can contribute.
2020 is actually looking pretty damn solid. JJ alone. Gladney was just unfortunate in several directions. But Cleveland, Dantzler and Osborn all look like solid starters. Wonnum, Dye, Hand, Metellus, Lynch, Brandel and maybe even Hinton could all end up as solid depth or at least some sort of depth.
2021 is kind of the wild card. There's some definite upside. Darrisaw looking legit. Bynum a solid piece. And then there are all the crapshoots. If you can get a couple of defensive rotational pieces out of Robinson, Jones, and Twyman then that's pretty good relative to where they were drafted. Same applies to Davidson if you can get a TE2/3. Surratt and Davis seem to be lost but Kene and ISM are carving out roles and who knows with Mond.
At the end of the day, Rick couldn't survive that bad stretch but hopefully his last couple years continue to bear some fruit even beyond what we've already seen.
