The thing that people are missing about Kirk Cousins and our quarterback position as a whole is as follows....
We need to be the 2004 Detroit Pistons on offense.
Sure Kirk Cousins makes the most amount of money but that's because that's what the market bears for a veteran at that position.
We don't need him to be Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes or Drew Brees...
We need him to be Chauncey Billups and simply drive the ship without making stupid mistakes. From a talent standpoint our offense has the potential to be absolutely loaded.
When Tom Brady was on the Patriots he didn't have Justin Jefferson and Dalvin Cook and Adam Thielen. Etc...
What Kirk Lacks between him and these Hall of Fame quarterbacks that everybody likes to compare him to that he's clearly not on their level is made up by our awesome skill position players and quite possibly two very very good bookend tackles.
Let's all stop talking about Kirk Cousins and let's talk about the offense in its totality. Which with an offensive minded head coach there's no excuse why this can't be one of the top offenses in the league since we have probably the best combination of RB and WR talent in the league.
And here is something that nobody talks about. I was watching Purple Daily And they were saying Kirk Cousins makes X and Joe Burrow makes X, And Josh Allen makes X... Yeah I get it, a quarterback on a rookie contract is going to make less than a veteran.... Now let's do it the other way that nobody talks about Justin Jefferson makes X while Devante Adams makes X And Tyreek Hill makes X and whoever the other veteran top end receivers are. Nobody likes to talk about that. Yeah we allocate our money differently... So what?
It needs to be a total team effort on offense and that's the way we need to look at this offense instead of focusing just on the quarterback position because we have more talent around the quarterback than most teams do if not every goddamn team in the league. And that's supposed to be combined with a brilliant offensive minded head coach or what we've been sold.
So again the 2004 Detroit Pistons won because they were collectively a balanced team and that's what our offense needs to be.
Kirk doesn't necessarily have to elevate everybody around him because quite honestly everyone around his is pretty well elevated themselves... Kirk has to drive the ship just like Chauncey Billups did in 2004 for the Pistons when they won the championship.
And he's our quarterback so I'm here to support him.
