The first week of the 2024 NFL season is here, and I think it's high time I share some updates on my biggest project. As an introduction to those who haven't heard of SuperSim, here's my promotional video explaining how it works:
I've got the 2024 NFL Roster uploaded and tweaked to my liking. Why don't we take the Season Simulator out for a spin?
And in the span of about three seconds, the entire season has been simmed. The Vikings unfortunately finish in last. Let's see how the playoffs go:
Oh man, Kirk Cousins' Falcons getting demolished in the Divisional Round by the Packers feels like it could really happen. Thankfully the Packers don't go any farther and the Ravens finally get it done.
New Features
Point Spread
Matchups between two teams will automatically have point spreads generated based upon the sum of all of the points have scored between all of their games. Here is the first game of the season simulated 2000 times. Take a look at the bottom right to see the point spread:
Would you look at that, it's nearly a complete draw! Baltimore is the better team according to the simulator as I have "NFL Homefield Advantage" in affect, but on the road the line would be a "PUSH".
I generated point spreads for every game in 2023 and the simulator beat the line 54% of the time - in a later post I will document how that happened and give some proof to back that up. But let's move on to more new features.
Stat Totals
Simply hit the "Show Totals" button above the point spread to see raw totals of a set of games.
Here you can see the totals from a session of 17 games I simmed (we went 8-9, by the way). If you simulate thousands of games, expect crazy results!
Team Preview
You can now view a quick-and-easy way of seeing all of a team's starters and evaluate their OVR. Choose a team and then select the "TPrw" option to view this page. This can help you understand how the player ratings affect team performance.
Quick Coach Edit
I've implemented a quicker way of editing Coach Sliders. Just click the "QC" button to the right of a team you've selected and you can edit the sliders easily.
