While I'm still intrigued with why the Vikings signed Darnold, now I'm curious to see how they will use him as the Starting QB and how he will perform this season. Were they desperate because they had no better options, or did they see something that has changed in his game or his mentality?
It comes down to why do some players grow and others do not grow. Favre always had physical talent and confidence. He made great plays and he threw more than his share of picks. And Favre also grew in his knowledge of the game, and it made him increasingly difficult to beat when he was healthy.
Will Darnold grow as a Vikings QB with KO as Head Coach and play-caller? Will Josh McCown help him grow and improve? Or is Darnold stuck where he is and the Vikings are stuck with a bad QB?
How many games will Darnold play? Will he get benched, get injured, or finish the season as the Starter?
Let's assume for a moment that they were not desperate and they made a rational choice. KO and all of the Coaches know more about what makes a QB effective than we will ever know. What has changed in Darnold's game? What did they see then and what do they see today?
Now they have a better idea about what they have after seeing him in Camp against good defenses. How many pass attempts per game will KO call? KO called about 38 pass plays per game the last two seasons with Cousins. How many passes per game will Darnold attempt? What will his completion % be?
How many TDs and how many INTs on the season for Darnold?
