How will KO use Darnold, and how will Darnold perform?

The ESPN simulation made two assumptions - Darnold sucked, and opposing Offenses figured out how to deal with Flores' blitzes. Darnold might suck, and he might not. I trust KO and his coaches more than I trust pundits, so I do not believe the narrative that the Vikings win 4 games.
The other questionable assumption is that opposing Offenses figured out the Flores Defense. Just as you can't drive a car looking in the rearview mirror, you can't assume the Flores Defense will be the same as last year. He has many different players this year, and the guys that returned are more familiar with his concepts. This Defense is better at Cornerback and Deeper at Edge rusher. It has more options for generating a pass rush from the inside, and with Cashman, Van Ginkel and others they will cover better at the LB spot too. Better coverage and more guys creating pressure means a much more difficult Defense to play. More blitzes will get to the QB.
If you have a Top Ten or better Defense, do you really need Peyton Manning in his prime to play QB for you? Obviously not. The Vikings need Darnold to use his talent, not panic, and not be a turnover machine. And they need a decent short passing and running game to complement the intermediate and deep passing game.
With a good Defense, 24 points will win the Vikings a lot of games. 7-9 wins is not a stretch. With health and an improved Darnold, competing for the Division is not out of the question.
