Drank, McCaffrey got hurt in the 4th (I think) game of Sam's first season in Carolina.

And Sam never got him back as he was out for the season the rest of that year and the following year was traded later (while Sam was out with an injury suffered in Preseason).

Sam had CMC for just 3 full games. In those 3 games, they went 3-0.

After his injury, the wheels came off.

It kind of HELPS having someone like him in the lineup.

This is the same thing with JJ (Jefferson). Him being in the lineup makes EVERYONE better.

And the QB benefits from his presence whether as an option to throw to or as a very effective Decoy drawing double-teams.

I see both sides this a tough one. That’s why I am doing the middle. I feel Darnold could but the history worries me. Did Darnold have sorry Adam Gase as coach?

See this is the debates I want to see. Both sides putting out reasons they feel that way. Instead of he sucks he sucks or he’s the greatest with no back up support. Nobody has to be stupid we all here discussing our boys.

Both sides have excellent points. I’m on the fence with Darnold right now. I’m reading what both sides saying and I see both ways. But on this topic could be swayed either way if enough good evidence swings one way.

Even with CMC, Teddy's panthers team went 0-2 just before CMC got injured whereas Sam with CMC went 3-0.

Now I'm not going to sit here and say Sam turns into an All-Pro but saying he'll go from Poor to Average when he hasn't been Poor since his first season with Carolina is just absurd.

Especially since he had his best stretch of his career (4-2) that 2nd season and almost dragged a dead-in-the-water team to the playoffs as a result.

Add the solid showing he had in the first half with the Niners (when all the starters were in, before they sat in the 2nd) where he had 4 scoring drives(3 TDs, 1 missed FG), and that is evidence he is no longer "Poor" in performance.

If you want to say Average to Above-average? Sure, I'll buy that.

This team though has the ability to make him even more than that.

We'll just have to wait and see when the games start counting.

If we could get good from Sam or JJ we in business. Elite is great but you can win with good as long as they clutch. Some guys are good but not clutch… others good but clutch. We need good consistency that in the moment of truth embraces pressure and rises in the clutch.

That lack of running has been the one area KO hasn’t strived at yet unfortunately.

Then again if he can’t pass at a high volume could cause problems. With all the mouths we have to feed they won’t be happy. Jets, Hock and Addison won’t love blocking all day. So he going to have to be able to pass consistently and minimize turnovers to be successful. I don’t see a conservative approach based on the strength of our personal.

If not run more we must be more efficient when we do at least.

We can play the stat game all day! During those first three games of 2021 the Carolina defense played three poor offensive teams that averaged less than 20 points a game that season. In fact, in the first game of the 2021 season the Carolina defense played against the Jets with three rookies on offense. QB, LG, and RB. Panther D had 6 sacks. *whistle*

The second game was against a depleted Saints team led by a broken-down Jameis Winston led offense that averaged 17 points a game. 5 offensive coaches had COVID and starting C Erik McCoy missed the game due to injury. Tough game for the Panthers D right? The Panthers had 4 sacks. *loling*

The third game was against the mighty Texans and David Mills. I believe they won only 4 games in 2021 and their OC at the time is now a tight ends coach.

What happened to the Carolina Panthers D in the 4th game of the 2021 season? How many points did they give up? The Cowboys averaged 31 points in 2021 and they dropped 36 on the Panthers D that day. SamIam accounted for 4 TDs that game!!

Unlike you I think Sam Darnold will have his best NFL season with us. He's a baller.

I would argue though that the run game has hindered the passing game, even with Cousins. It definitely allows defenses to sell out more on the pass. That's something KOC needs to fix, and I'm not confident in his ability to do so because while a healthy Jones is a huge upgrade over Mattison, the problem was much deeper than just the running back. It might be fun to see a few JJ runs mixed in occasionally. He's got the speed.

I don't have a ton of high hopes for Darnold other than that the staff identified him as the best fit to run this offense for a year while JJM gets ready. I assume that's because they think he can keep the job for a year and potentially give us a nice problem to have next season. With JJ under contract we could in theory tag Darnold if he balls out (I'm not expecting that to be clear, but a Kirk like season might make both sides amenable to a 1-year deal).

This is why getting Aaron Jones is so damn HUGE.

When he dominates, it opens up Playaction for Sam and makes his job far easier than normal.

But yeah....if he can't turn things around with this team, he never will and his future will forever be as a backup.

I've said this ad nauseum but this is his FINAL CHANCE to be a starter in the league.
