Kirk ain't perfect, and he's had faults like every QB. The truth is that the Vikings were good, but exposed as not great, in 2017 and Zimmer never actually made any of HIS CBs (Waynes/Hughes/Dantzler/etc) all that great. As a coach, he peaked and fell hard.

Cousins got hurt while leading the NFL in TDs, despite the team leading the league in drops. The team around him is likely the best overall, most balanced since he got here. The timing of the injury sucks, the fact that any "fan" campaigns for him to be gone is...junk.

That's a bad joke.

Keenum would take 2-3 games to match Cousins' output. He HAD to have the run game and the defense carry him, and that year's o-line happened to achieve mediocrity (check the ratings) with Shurmur as OC...in fact, Shurmur was maybe the best single thing that happened to the 2017 team. Diggs was peaking, AT was right there, the defense hadn't been figured out yet, Rhodes hadn't flamed out yet, but Shurmur could get the offense humming with Zimmer's respect.

The revolving door at OC afterward and the fact that he didn't do film work with Cousins until 2021 kinda says a lot about Zimmer's ability to actually run an offense.

OK, KOC...time to earn that money and acclaim...!

and 2017 we scored 1+ more points per game than 2018. In 2017 we were also 4th in TOP and in 2018 we were 24th. Pretty big drop when Hall of Famer Kirk Cousins took the wheel.

I just think you place waaaaaay too much weight in things coaches say about a likeable guy who just suffered a season ending injury. And his teammates have no reason to be anything but supportive, they might really want him back but its not their decision and they will get behind whoever plays and extend the same courtesy to the next guy.

Nobody in their right mind would expect either Hall or Dobbs to "look great" anytime soon, one because he's never started a game and the other because they probably aren't in MN yet, but I'm afraid that's the bar fans are setting for themselves. I think most coaches are a bit more grounded in reality, thankfully.

Now that they've made that move, still nothing stopping them from signing someone like Wentz off the street. I may have preferred a trade for Lance or Mariota, but we spent no draft capital this way. Hall likely starts this week, then it's a matter of whether he gets a 2nd...and after that, a matter of whether Mullins starts when he comes back. So our QB play is a real wild card now.

I thought Zimmy was your boy? I don’t remember you being a Kirk girl with Zim. So what changed? Dare I say you disagree with Zim? Because getting Kirk is what set Zim gone wheels in motion. His lack of liking or belief in Kirk.

I can now see the levels of QB play and the differences. Kirk will be considered an upper tier QB with injury concerns, but some club will still give him like $40 million plus per year, based on his play this year. Only way I can see the Vikings resigning him if is he takes a discount because of the weapons on this team.

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins won’t play again in 2023. There’s no reason to think he won’t play in 2024.

Even though he’s due to become a free agent and the Vikings have no way to prevent Cousins from entering the open market in March, Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell made it clear on Tuesday that he’d like to see Cousins come back next year.

“Kirk Cousins is going to be healthy again,” O’Connell told reporters. “I know he’s going to be a free agent after this season, but Kirk knows how I feel about him and that will be something, you know, that hopefully will work itself out. . . . You guys know how I feel about Kirk. Kirk knows how I feel about Kirk. I think he was playing as well as anybody in the National Football League.”

Cousins arrived in Minnesota in 2018, as a free agent. The fact that the Vikings had not extended his contract this year created the impression that the Vikings were willing, if not inclined, to move forward without him after 2023.

Now, that all changes. Cousins was thriving under O’Connell this year. The injury could make that a lot easier to yet again continue the relationship, from reducing his options to making him and the Vikings determined to try it again next year.

Not the biggest Rodgers fan obviously, but this was pretty cool of him.
