They paid a lot to get Sloter from the Broncos PS too, so yeah it doesn't mean much. Purdy would probably be rotting away behind Mullens on this roster. I remember when we played the 49ers in the preseason last year though, and saying the Vikings should scoop him up if the 49ers tried to sneak him on the PS on cut day. He just seem like a baller to me. Taking deep shots and connecting, while we watched Mannion and Mond dink-n-dunk 3-n-out after 3-n-out. It's preseason FFS, let the damn ball rip.

This is kinda how the Cousins experience has been. A few games every year he dials it in and plays out of his mind, but it's never for a sustained amount of time.

Purdy was playing very well until the 2 interceptions, even with them the 49ers might win that one if McCaffery doesn't lose a soft fumble and their kicker doesn't miss an easy FG. Or if their defense didn't play so poorly.

Yeah, which is probably why comet52 brought up that this sounded just like every Vikings game before this one... a whole lotta ifs and buts. Now will we see more of that version or the "vs 49ers" version going forward?

Yes, it's usually a sign of pathetic self-aggrandizement. I assume smart owners see that a GM claiming he "almost" signed another team's successful player is describing their failure. That said, it seems the story about Purdy is pushed by Purdy, not KAM.

They picked Young because of is score on that S2 test? Geez, someone in the Carolina office should have had a tape measure instead...

I think it's too early to say that, I think he's played well, certainly for a guy making $800K and has outplayed other options like Garoppolo and Carr who are making $25M+ more per year. I think he could wind up in the Goff/Tannehill tier of QB - not a guy I'd pay big money to but I'd be happy to have on a rookie deal.

We live in an instant conclusion culture. Drawing conclusions off one game, two games. Or in Purdy's case, about 10 games. Not enough games would be a good bet at this point. He has limitations. He's a good fit in the Shanahan system. But when you need to come back in the 4th qtr when you're down, he's not necessarily an elite talent, he's not a superstar. He's a decent player in the right system, provided the pieces around him do what they are supposed to do.

If I only have these two choices I’m going to go with the ADDITIONAL 1st rounder. I’ve been consistent on Kirk. He’s not the problem, but he’s not the solution. And there’s three things to beware of 1) a recency bias in that he just came off a great game, 2) he’s going to be 36 and 3) we need the $$ for JJ and Christian D. Let’s move on

I keep coming back to two factors: The age/price tag of Cousins to go forward with him and the situation that a rookie would take over. Getting an absurd receiver and tackle duo and good TE with a former QB calling the shots is as good as any situation that any rookie has ever taken over. It’s like Big Ben, Dak or Brock Purdy as rookies. They should trust that the supporting cast moves the odds significantly in their favor. But they are also aware that missing on that pick is going to waste some great players’ primes and get them fired. Then again, 2018-2021 also did that and got someone else fired. It’s a tough biz.

Love that point. Addison and Jefferson, Darrisaw and O'Neill at tackle. Hockenson and Oliver at TE. That's about as ideal a scenario for a young QB as possible. It's a bit reminiscent of Culpepper when he took over. Two great WR's, a dominant offensive line and a damn good RB behind him. Give a young QB a lot of weapons and players around him to help him grow and learn. They can help bring him up.
