Most of you regulars here at Purple Pain are familiar with Pick 6, but for any newbies and lurkers... this thread should get you all caught up!

For all newbies, welcome! We hope you enjoy this game as well as chatting with us in the forums about the Vikings, NFL, other sports, and even some interesting Off Topic discussions! We have it all! Anyone else believe in ghosts ... ? 



But enough about that... let's get to why you're here! 

Introducing Purple Pain's Pick 6!

For both the new and old, here are the rules and prizes. Yes, we have prizes!!! 

Prizes:

Regular season winner: a free Vikings Ticket to a game of your choice next season (as well as the opportunity to buy a ticket right next to it to bring a guest)

Like the last couple of years - Raptorman is also throwing in some STRAIGHT CASH, HOMIE: a $175 Visa gift card for first place, $150 for second place, and $125 for third place!!! THANK YOU, RAPTORMAN!!!



Wait - you thought we were done?! There is another prize!!!

Also, for the first-place winner, the fine folks at Vikings Report - Purple Pain's podcast partner - are throwing in a guest appearance on their show (nearly 25k subs!)! So, feel free to hop on there and brag about how smart you are. lol. Huge thanks to Ted Glover,  Drew Bunting  and tooncesthevikingcat  - all from Vikings Report. Skol! 

So, just to recap, the big winner gets:

As far as postseason winners, we'll provide a few options for the plaques and shirts, and the winner will be allowed to choose his/her favorite. Also, if you're a member from one of our affiliates, and therefore a fan of another team, we can work out something else for prizes if you were to win. Yes, we'd love to convert you to being a Vikings fan, lol, but of course we'll get you something for your NFCN team.

Here are the rules for Purple Pain's Pick 6. They are simple enough, but I assure you this is a fun game with plenty of surprises along the way.

Rules:

Each week, you'll find the appropriate thread and post your picks. Your six picks will consist of the following:

Game 1: Lock of the Week. - 1pt
Game 2 : Divisional Matchup - 2pts
Game 3 : Upset Special - 3pts
Game 4 : Wildcard - 1pt
Game 5: Highest-Combined Score - 3pts
Game 6: Gamble Pick - +/- 2 pts
Max weekly score - 12pts

Explanations of these picks:

Lock of the week - This is the winner you are most sure of.

Divisional Matchup - You must pick a winner in a divisional matchup (these will be in bold and in red to help you choose).

Upset Special - Upset special is where you pick an underdog. These will be underlined so you know the options you can choose from. I will choose a few games each week to be eligible. Eligibility could be because of the spread, current records, recent history, etc. They'll be picked using a variety of factors. 
***Note the Upset Special option of NO UPSETS (explained in the weekly threads). 

Wildcard - Pick a winner of any game of your choosing.

Highest-Combined Score - The matchup that you predict will have the highest total combined score for the week. You can pick a game that is the same as one of your other five picks; this matchup DOES NOT have to be different from your other picks, because you aren't picking a winner/loser here, and, therefore, aren't contradicting yourself/double-dipping. 

Gamble Pick - This is your choice of any other matchup you haven't picked a winner from yet. This is the only pick option that you can actually lose points, hence the gamble. This pick will be worth two points or minus two points. Choose this matchup wisely!
