Potential New DC Candidates - Brian Flores Hired!!!

There are a ton of guys that played the Edge well and played it well into their 30s. Z had 1 year wiped out by injuries. Hunter had two. Z played through a totally unrelated injury for half of last year. In a relatively static role versus what GB used him in, as Sitewolf pointed out. Let's not throw dirt on this guy just yet.

I'm torn on CB @ #23 because it's a deep Class. Will Stevenson from Miami or Brents from KSU be that much less of a player than Cam Smith or the midget Phillips from Utah or Forbes? I've seen arguments made that Smith belongs closer to Gonzalez/Witherspoon/Porter than the next Tier. I seriously doubt any of those 3 are available at #23. If they are you run to the podium. Hell, I'll be at the Draft. I'll run it in myself!

I'd love to get Devon Witherspoon to the Vikings. Every time I flipped to an Illinois game he was making a play and flashing. Maybe it was seeing the Vikes curl up in the fetal position scheme, but seeing an active and aggressive CB making things happen just popped off the screen.

It will be interesting to see how he can transform this defense. It really can only go in one direction... yeah I suppose it can technically hit 32, but F lores does have a proven track record...

I do somewhat wonder about Kendricks. I know most of us (me included) want him gone. Thing is he could have been traded for decent value a year ago. Two years ago, he was elite. Elite players don't fall off a cliff quite like that. I know father time is undefeated, but that's quite the fall from grace. I remember at the beginning of the season thinking that he wasn't the worst problem on the team and by the end of it... well, we were all right there with winatnoon ... so I do kind of wonder if Flores does keep a few guys around. Kendricks (or one or two others) might be kept around as restructure options... we'll see.

I am liking the hire... I do selfishly hope he's here for at least two seasons. More important than that, I really hope that part of the interview was that Flores understands that his main job is to groom is his replacement. We all know Brian will probably be a HC at some point after his lawsuit is done. I would simply ask that whomever replaces him joins him in the building as he builds his staff and is prepared to run things when he leaves... because it will probably happen sooner than later.

They say he might not test well at the combine so maybe that'll drop him, but pure tape he seems to be the best CB in the draft. Either way he isnt going to be there at #23
