No, it is showing a specific aspect that has been talked about before in this very thread related to market value being what a team would be willing to pay. I agree that this is not the market JJ is heading into as we have control, it is to point out that when discussing what his market value is.
It's not some convoluted thing where we own him now so we just get to arbitrarily decide what it should be. If people want to talk about him asking more than his market value then it is important to note that could mean over 40 million per year. If we are talking less than that we are really saying he should take less than what he could get on the open market because we won't let him get there.
Very different things.
We all know the Vikings have control of the situation contract wise. You seem to be pushing for us to demand JJ play at less than his actual market value just because you think we should hold owning his rights over him for some reason until he gives in. If that is how it is playing out then this is less on JJ and more on our organization for playing dumb games.
JJ is worth what someone on the market will pay him and he knows that. He can't get there today, neither could Lamar. All he needs to do is bet on himself and win in the same manner, then the Vikings will be left scrambling to the update market values in the same way. That's less of a JJ issue and more of a Vikings issue if we push it that far just because we feel we have the leverage to do so. It doesn't last long when it's a truly elite talent and the only team to try it found that out fast.
Huh? It’s how most think. Most guys get deals before a contract expires. Isn’t that what Texans just did? He was under contract. They extended him because they want him around. If Nico worth 24 Jets worth 40 easily. Hock was in this same spot last year.
