During the Wilf era we have only 6 seasons with a record over .500 and we never had a winning record following a season with a winning record and during that time they specifically drafted the QB of the future 3 different times.
TJ
Ponder
Teddy.
So if you actually watched the team during the Wilf era and understand this then your point holds zero value.
I'm confused by your logic - you claim that we will become the Lions if we move Cousins, yet in the Wilfs' tenure before Cousins, we certainly weren't at the consistently terrible level of Lions/Browns. The quality of our rosters did fluctuate back and forth at times, but the peaks of 2009 and 2017 are not things the worst teams in the NFL experience.
And you're suggesting we permanently abandon the idea of drafting a QB just because of 3 past failures? And of the 3 you mentioned, not one of those guys were top 10 selections or even consensus 1st round prospects. You're talking about a small school 2nd rounder, a massive reach that few thought was a 1st rounder (Ponder), and a borderline 1st rounder who had a freak injury that altered his career (there's a reason why Bridgwater was available at #32). All three of these busts had the the same number of playoff runs as Cousins has had as a Viking... one.
Here's a possible conclusion - drafting these busts led us to the point to where we have to overpay an above average QB to ensure we stay at 7-10 wins. We're basically at the same point as we were when we had Jackson/Ponder/Bridgewater, just a higher floor and a lower ceiling on the W-L ratio.
