I remember the leaders feeling the same way about Special Ted, so maybe we should have held onto him. But yeah, the guys who play with him know better than we do about his ability to lead them to a championship lol. Like the past 7 seasons were just a fever dream.

I mean who knows, maybe they enjoy all the mediocrity. There's less pressure that way, and with Kirk around taking most of the heat, I can see why some would be drawn to him. Or maybe that's just what teammates say publicly about one another, the same way Spielman had no intentions of trading Harvin or Diggs. It's like humans are capable of maintaining simultaneous thoughts or something weird like that.

If only Kirk could play as well as he negotiates or talks though, then he wouldn't need his teammates to vouch for him. Brady, Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson ... they don't need teammates declaring them to be their dog. Everyone knows they are because they have their own 2 eyes and have watched them prove it on the field, consistently.

Teddy sucked at throwing the football to his teammates down the field. That was proven by his 14 TDs a year. We aren’t needing proof he can throw the ball accurately or increase his TD throws or reduce his INTs because he already has elite numbers. What people are complaining about is those elite numbers don’t produce more wins. Objective people would understand that a QB can do a great job of things in his control and still not win due to other players not doing theirs. This season should help define that if the coaches are good.

Kirk's job is winning games and understanding the flow of them. Yes he was plenty good enough to win games with what he produced. IF the defense was better no doubt. His habit of disappearing for quarters , namely the 2nd and 3rd was a problem when the defense is bad. His heroics late would have been less necessary then. He wouldn't get a pass if someone else missed their kick or fumbled. When your defense is giving up 30 per you need to think 40 for yourself. Not coast at 28.
Kirk was not afforded Teddy's luxury but isn't paid for that either.
Don't want to appear like I'm chasing you here. Perhaps I said enough all ready.
Let's see IF this is the year we put the good things Kirk can do with a team that could win divisions before he got here.

If being a Viking fan was easy ~ everyone would do it.

A better question is, what do they know compared to his former coach that labeled him as a .500 quarterback? A quarterback that is 33-29-1 with the team, BTW. Pretty spot-on!

If you think players supporting their QB based on quotes from a rah-rah session is a more accurate depiction of his abilities than him floundering over and over in pressure situations when the team needs him the most....well....then I'd have to say congratulations on the team keeping a player who's destined to ensure the Vikings maintain the status quo of mediocrity.

As for me personally, I'd rather roll the dice and go for broke in the hopes of actually attaining the ultimate prize as opposed to the endless frustration of being not quite good enough.

So you're basing your opinions on "last year" as opposed to say:

- Needing a win against a futile Bears squad in week 17 to make the playoffs only to have Kirk trip over his dick the entire game?

- Needing decent QB play against the 49ers in the playoffs only to have Kirk sh*t the bed every time his first read wasn't there?

Look, let's be clear on something, I personally like Kirk. I like his demeanor and the way he conducts himself. I love his accuracy on scripted plays that go as planned. The problem I have is when he has to go "off script", that's when the sh*t hits the fan and everything crumbles.

Teams that win the ultimate prize have QBs that can make plays when everything goes awry and improvisation is required.....that's not Kirk!

Here are the numbers for Jimmy G in that spot:
8.7 YPA, 60% completion percentage, 115.1 passer rating

For the first time in his career, Kirk wasn't horrible in that spot, was just okay, and our expectations have been lowered so much people think he did a great job.

I would like to see his stats over the past 4 seasons compared with every other QB we have put on the field in the last 40 years.

I don’t believe he is close to being the best QB in the league. But I believe he is the best we have had outside of one year of Brett and one of Culpepper in the past 20 years and is the most consistent long term option we have had since Tark.

Now, that is not so much support of him but a realistic statement that we have done a great disservice to the fans by sucking at finding a franchise QB for 4 decades.

So I have no qualms about replacing him with a better QB. I hope we do. But I don’t want to dump him and go back to what I have lived through for 4 decades since Fran retired.

I want his replacement to show the team on the field that he is truly better and an upgrade rather than dumping him and hoping the next one isn’t another Teddy/Ponder/Jackson.

It's absurd that a career .500 QB who has never been more than a game above or below .500 in 7 years is the very definition of maintaining the status quo of mediocrity? (roflmao)

I want his replacement to show the team on the field that he is truly better and an upgrade rather than dumping him and hoping the next one isn’t another Teddy/Ponder/Jackson.

Who would want to go back to making the playoffs every 3 years of starts with those guys when we can make it every 4 years with Cousins?

I just don't get how we get better at the QB spot, something you acknowledge we should do, while continuing to extend a QB on a contract that makes it impossible to do just that?
