The Vikings have been fortunate to have Brandel play adequately at first, and his PFF rating against the Jets was good.
The OL has exceeded expectations this year - even with Ingram poor in pass protection.
If the Vikings have the 2nd best run-blocking line, why do they struggle to run it sometimes? I'd like to see them run more against teams with strong pass rushes, and I'd like to see them make blitzers pay.
The best thing to say about the Vikings this year is they have learned to win the close games.
A win against a rising Detroit on the road would be good.
Excellent question. I think there's a couple of factors. First, while Cook's long speed is still elite I think his initial burst when he hits the hole is a little less than it used to be. He's not exploding through the seam untouched for chunk games. Instead, he's getting tripped up and limited to a decent gain or sometimes nothing.
I also think O'Connell was trying to hard to run inside. Seems like when he makes a concerted effort to run off Left Tackle he's been seeing success.
The third is that PFF is full of sh*t. I see plenty of Teams on the Redzone with better pass blocking on the interior and Teams that are opening bigger running lanes.
So we're being sold a load of crap and buying it despite the obvious visual evidence.
The fix is to rotate Dalvin more and maybe even sit him for a game like what a writer suggested they do with Z so he's fresh for the Playoffs. And run more off Tackle. I'd also like to see more 2 TE sets or even Udoh on the field as an extra blocker for more than just a snap or two.
Establishing a successful running game early is going to be the #1 key in the Playoffs besides winning the Turnover battle.
