Exactly. I heard Judd zulgad make a good point when he was talking about cousins and his contract/cap hit. He was saying something like if cousins is like an above average qb, but not a guy the team can lean on to win games like an elite qb, and you are paying him elite qb money then what’s the difference between a starter like him as opposed to a qb in the 15-20 quality range. Meaning starting qb in that range ala like a wentz or a mayfield or a hurts even? If those guys are contributing about as much as cousins on the field or as effective in the win loss category, why don’t you get a qb like that and spread the money you save on cousins contract to other needy positions that could be upgraded. It was a good point.
The point being: more money for the OL and defense. This is where Zimmer was coming from. As a defensive coach, he wanted to stick with what was working. Moving forward, the new regime probably wants more of a focus on offense. And probably wants the best QB possible.
I agree about zimmer and his philosophy and wanting Kirk over teddy. However I don’t think whoever our new regime will be (assuming offensive specialist for our new hc) are going to want to keep Kirk. He is proven over many years you can’t lean on him to win games when he needs to and he will not restructure contract. So you can’t go on with him and will have to find another qb going forward.
