I like both options more than a Cleveland trade that is also possible because Darnold isn’t some huge distraction nor is he anything besides salary cap filler and bridge QB.

I think Carolina would have to give up their 6th overall pick for Kirk without us giving them our 12th back if we were taking Darnold back in the trade. Their HC and GM will be fired if they don't win next season, and with that D, WRs, and terrible division they might see Kirk as a way to go from an 8 win team with Darnold, to a 10 win team with Cousins. Good enough that they keep their jobs for one more season even if it doesn't actually make them real contenders.

Your trade deal makes sense and it actually does help us as well as them. If we are giving up Cousins to move up 6 spot with a pick to be named later does little to help us now. Especially since if Rodgers leaves we might find ourselves in a very similar situation as Carolina.

If being a Viking fan was easy ~ everyone would do it.

The difference between 6 and 12 is about a middle of second round pick. But the closest and most noteworthy trade example recently was Buffalo trading number 12(same as ours) and two 2nd round picks to TB for pick 7 which they used for Josh Allen.

I could easily see this “weak” QB draft class having one or two guys in the top 10 due to positional value. The trade where we get pick 6 might allow us to pick the one we want. Or a defensive star of our choice instead of someone that falls. Just a thought.

It sounds like he was suggesting the Vikings would trade Cousins and the 12th for the 6th and other compensation, not just Cousins for the 6th.

The Eagles are notorious for having little patience for inconsistent QB play. Their cap situation for 2022 seems pretty good. Although it becomes a sh*t show for them in 2023 and 2024 which makes me wonder even more if they're intent on trying to win right now.

So the Vikes would get Hurts and have to deal with some of his growing pains plus some draft capital (the eagles have that in spades this year) and the Eagles get a more consistent QB in Cousins.

The eagles also have some high priced players who have big cap hits coming soon. Like a Brandon Graham. Still a useful player but getting up there. Could they take on a player like this to offset some of Kirk's cap hit instead of just paying it down and get a better a better draft pick?

Anyway, probably a little overly creative and unrealistic but if we're spitballin' I figured I'd throw it out there.

And where is the source for this? Because everything I’ve heard actually points to the opposite in that had it been Jim as the hc cousins would have stayed. With KOC coming it will be the opposite. Just because they worked together for one season (cousins worst year starting in Washington) doesn’t mean Kirk knows him and therefore he stays.

He was there for one season and Kirk didn’t play particularly well that year. O’Connell didn’t take this job because cousins is here.

Let’s face it, finding an appropriate trade partner is difficult and the coach/GM probably don’t want to start off losing unless the trade value is too good to pass up. Hoping for a trade, preparing for him being here. I feel that way and the Vikings might too.

Then take it on the chin and eat his last year of his contract and let him walk in the offseason next year. You absolutely can not extend him. If they do there won’t be a sb win here for however long he is signed. Kind of goes against everything the wilfs have been doing so far the last month.

Regarding a potential Cousins to Tampa trade, here are some thoughts from SB Nation's Bucs writer:

The second scenario for Tampa Bay, and the far more dramatic one, is that they try to roll this all forward. The team makes another big play for an established QB to go all-in again. What that looks like is difficult to envision right now. Perhaps the Packers could be convinced to trade Aaron Rodgers to an NFC team, though that seems unlikely. Maybe Russell Wilson decides he wants out of Seattle, but that also feels like a long shot.

There are some weird potential half-steps too, like making a play for Kirk Cousins if the Vikings decide to rebuild, or getting Jimmy Garoppolo from the 49ers — though it’s difficult to envision either of them being able to lead Tampa Bay to a championship. Really, this is about getting an established QB in the system. Someone who has a similar aura to Brady where players are going to want to come to Tampa Bay because of them, and try to recreate the magic of 2020 once more.

For the record, I think this would be a bad move. The bold all-veteran approach worked once, and it was a paradigm shift for the NFL. I’m not sure the Rams would have traded for Matthew Stafford and signed their veterans had Brady and the Buccaneers not won the Super Bowl, but catching that lightning in a bottle is such a risky proposition. The Rams were in a very, very different situation when they traded for Stafford than the Buccaneers are in now. They were younger on defense, had dozens of established developed talent in the fold, and were really just a QB away from competing.

For what it's worth, opposing fanbases are not hot on Kirk. There was legitimate buzz for Stafford this time last year, but not a whole lot for KC.
