I’m inclined to believe the Schefter report. Let’s face it, finding an appropriate trade partner is difficult and the coach/GM probably don’t want to start off losing unless the trade value is too good to pass up. Hoping for a trade, preparing for him being here. I feel that way and the Vikings might too.
Then take it on the chin and eat his last year of his contract and let him walk in the offseason next year. You absolutely can not extend him. If they do there won’t be a sb win here for however long he is signed. Kind of goes against everything the wilfs have been doing so far the last month.
I agree and you’ll find no one else that is more team trade Kirk than I am. But we have to admit there are very few teams that look like good trade partners. The Vikings won’t salary dump him for nothing imo. Do these teams want to give up at least a second round pick for him:
-Panthers- cap wise for CAR you have to take back Darnold and not many other assets due to their poor front office
-Steelers- good fit imo but probably have to eat more of Kirk’s cap to incentivize Pittsburgh. All the rookie talk there is definitely strange as outside of OL they seem ready to win now.
-Broncos- best fit bar none assuming they don’t get Rodgers. Have the cap space and draft assets from trades like Von Miller.
-Buccaneers- we have to see the gymnastics on Brady’s retirement financially to see if they have room.
-Browns- good fit with Stefanski but you have to take back Baker for Cleveland cap wise.
-Colts- lost draft assets with failed Wentz trade and you probably have to take Wentz back.
-Saints- obvious need for a QB with a good roster but just not possible with their cap disaster.
So really we have the two good fits in Pittsburgh and Denver with the few other “take garbage back” options. Therefore trading him is definitely interesting. I removed the Commanders even though they are a good fit…for obvious reasons. I think they make sense for Jimmy G.
Kwesi has to sell the team/fans on a mission. I think we agree it should be a reset mission. I think extending him shows you’re trying to win. Trade him shows you’re focused on the future. Let him play out his year at 45M just keeps us right where we are (below .500 but not terrible). I think if they see there’s no market for him trade wise, that 45M will be a hard one to take on the chin like you mentioned. Hopefully they stay strong and treat him like the rental/mercenary he’s always been without extending him for some immediate relief.
