I like the optimism. Even Rick isn't claiming we are going to compete for a SB anymore and just wants to get us back to the playoffs, and it was getting kind of depressing around here.
He isn't good enough. You look at the SB winning QB throughout the years and there have been like 4 who aren't HOFers since Dilfer won it 20 or so years ago. People want to start over with a rookie because they want to win in 2022 or 2023 and are looking towards the future when we have rebuilt this roster to be a SB caliber roster. Which it isn't close to right now.
The defense still isn't good enough. It will be better, but it isn't a defense teams will fear like the SB winning defense of the 2015 Broncos. The dline will be better, but not at the level we saw in 2019, let alone 2017. That isn't good enough.
The secondary should be better. I trust Zimmer's ability to make Peterson his next Newman, but Newman was the 2nd CB, not the guy who shutdown the other team's #1. That was Rhodes. We don't have a Rhodes on this team.
The Oline will be worse than last year. They haven't upgraded anywhere on the line and they will be downgrading at LT even if a rookie comes in and plays above what typical rookies play.
Cook will not be as good. He took too many hits last season and most RBs have down years after that kind of punishment.
Theilen will be a year older. He is going to start to slow down. It is inevitable.
Anyway, all that to say this team could win 10 games, but it would take a miracle for it to get to the SB, let alone win it against one of the juggernauts in the AFC.
On offense, say what you want about Kirk's contract, but you know what you can pay the QB whatever when you get a full room of pretty good corners and receivers for under 30mil vs the cap. Lets face it 4200 yards and 35 TDs is expensive and I dont care if its Kirk Cousins or Kirk's cousin... Your gonna pay for that and your gonna pay a premium when your signing someone else's QB cause your perceived QB of the future had his leg explode in a freak accident. Truth is Kirk Cousins contract this year is fair value, next year the cap will sky rocket and im not talking about next year anyway, im talking about NOW. Anyone who wants to ditch Kirk and turn this team over to a rookie is insane.
