Activate Zim Hellfire defense 2.0
Truth is last year was a anomaly. Zim just didn't have the horses and then injuries piled up on top of that. This defense has the talent to do a complete 180 and be back in the top 5 this year.
First off you add Danielle Hunter back into the mix and add some serious beef up the middle. Tomlinson and Pierce will be like Arby's "We got the meats" up the gut. Even when our defense was at its best we were semi soft vs the run. Not no more. You got some serious beef in front of the best MLB in football. I cant wait to see the space those 2 monsters take up. On the other side DJ Wonnum showed some really nice flashes and him a steady Stephen Weatherly will be just fine. Let alone Im satisfied with some very quality depth on the DL.
At LB you have the hand down best MLB in the business and a very solid Anthony Barr, nothing wrong with that, sure some depth issues outside of those two but our 3rd LB and backups haven't been great this whole time even when we had a top 3 defense.
The secondary is going to be very very much improved. Forget the additions of Peterson and Alexander but just the fact that the 2 rookies got left on no pass rush hell island last year and held their own for the most part was fantastic now give them a years experience in this defense and a capable DL to get to the QB and the improvements will be drastic. I expect an outstanding pass defense. Harrison Smith is still a very high end safety and Woods we will have to see about but I dont see him making or breaking this defense. in reality should be a nice scheme fit and a solid role player.
The Offense
On offense, say what you want about Kirk's contract, but you know what you can pay the QB whatever when you get a full room of pretty good corners and receivers for under 30mil vs the cap. Lets face it 4200 yards and 35 TDs is expensive and I dont care if its Kirk Cousins or Kirk's cousin... Your gonna pay for that and your gonna pay a premium when your signing someone else's QB cause your perceived QB of the future had his leg explode in a freak accident. Truth is Kirk Cousins contract this year is fair value, next year the cap will sky rocket and im not talking about next year anyway, im talking about NOW. Anyone who wants to ditch Kirk and turn this team over to a rookie is insane. When have we EVER been successful at drafting a 10 year franchise QB? Not in my lifetime and im 41. There is no way in hell im turning this team over to a rookie let alone in a year where its Trevor Lawrence, who is a great prospect, and a bunch of overhyped QBs that dont excite me one bit. You draft a QB when you have nothing to lose if it fails. If you draft a QB now your no longer a win now team and your gonna also now need to replace Thielen and Harrison Smith as by the time this QB is ready youve used the last year or 2 of their prime.
Now onto the rest of the skill guys Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, Irv Smith, Alexander Mattison - let me make this clear and its all that needs to be said. NO TEAM IN THE NFL HAS A BETTER RB, WR1, WR2, TE1 RB2. PERIOD. That's all i need to say about them.
Now the Oline... ummm yeah... yuck right now. But here is the thing. O'Neill we all agree is really good. Cleveland really played good last year when he was thrown in the line up, and yeah compare to Dru Samia prob looked better than he was but he was a 2nd round pick, held his own and im fine with him starting. Im not giving up on Bradbury after 2 years and i dont think he is god awful like some make it seem. He certainly deserves to be in the starting lineup week 1. That leaves 2 spots to fill and a draft and 5 more months to work that out. Lets just see how it plays out. Here is the thing. EVERYONE CAN SEE THE ISSUE AND CONCERN. So they will work something out, i can surely say they aren't sitting around like 'yeah were good on oline' - here is my sleeper to keep an eye on - Oli Udoh, I really think he is gonna figure into this mix and they been grooming him for this exact moment. Don't be surprised if he gets a shot and plays well. He really did look fantastic for an unpolished late round rookie when he played vs the bears week 17 in 2019. So lets just see how the o line plays out, its not a finished product so lets not judge it like it is.
The Terrordome
And lastly here is one thing no one has mentioned. 2021 we will get our home field advantage back in the best building in the league. The NFL just announced they expect full capacity by week 1. Minnesota has one of if not the best home field advantage in the sport. Id love to see the numbers of home win% since the Vikings moved indoors in i think '83. Wouldnt be shocked if we were #1. Even years we were bad we played good at home. That why we have so few seasons under 6 wins. I think iv only sat thru 3 off the top of my head.
Meh, NFC
One final thing. The NFC is kinda ass right now. Its a good year to go for it. The Rams? lol - we've been kicking Staffords ass for a decade. Bring it LA...
So go ahead have at me. But im not going all Phil of crap Mackey and Dud Zulgad on it. Lets play. I think you negative nancys will be suprised.
