Barr/ Players attitude towards restructuring!

If we keep the current contract he getting them bonuses though🤷🏾‍♂️ He taking home over 15 mil. That why the cap hit 15. In this cap compressed market I don't see him getting no 15 nowhere. He can add some guarantee money and lower that cap man. The key is the cap, we have taken care of Barr. More than he has taken care of us that is for sure. If you balling I get it say no. He not been balling man, oh well cut him then he cannot hit us at 15 which is more than Kendricks who is way better.

Not sure how the signing bonus work,  if it's already been paid or not. The work out and other bonuses come when he show up. Even if that2.6 already been paid early even better. He still getting 15 mil for this year work. If I paid you in advance 2.6 million and said I will give you the rest later on a 15 million deal. Then when next year came and you say to me man I not making 15 million no more complaining, I am punching that person straight in the face because hoe I already gave you some of that 15 mil in advance to help you out instantly.Barr off this contract would pocket 15 for this years work and the cap hit 15 million which is the issue, with his solid but not great ass. He got money stashed in a vault somewhere he and Rudy and butt hurt, because their play fell off now they don't wanna help us we treated them fairly. Yet will go somewhere else for less. No way around it that is what will happen if we cut them. The base salary is what he getting per game. So they divide his total base and pay whatever that is dividing 12.3 over 16 games and that how much his check would be per game.The rest he getting by being on roster and working out. You misreading that, in all he getting 15 million take home 💰 for this year.

Barr is actually yet another example of the Vikings front office kicking the can down the road. In 2019 when Barr was a FA, we were limited on cap space. To make the numbers work, they paid Barr only a $2.9m base salary, but a $13m signing bonus where the hit would be spread out over the contract against the cap. So, his cap hit was only $5.6m in 2019.

If you look at the Spotrac link, the last column to the right shows the cash that the player actually gets. He got $16m in 2019 and $10m in 2020. The next two years are $12.5m and $13m. That is actually pretty fair, but his cap hits look worse because everyone forgets that he had a very low cap hit in 2019.

Time and time again the front office borrows from the future. That can work out ok in a world where the cap is increasing significantly. It clearly isn’t right now and we are in a tough spot in 21 and 22.

I think your 1st point is very valid. The guys who were younger then like Barr and Rudy were bought in. You need to show something more to keep them. I don't know were they are now financially but if they are taking less maybe they want more then a 4 year old promise here. 

Kirk really had nothing to do with the cap hit being reduced to 21 million in 2020, and it was likely not even mentioned at the bargaining table.  That kind of "restructure" really has nothing to do with the player.  2/66 million is the market rate for a top 3 QB in 2021 and 2022 btw.  Not for a QB of Cousins caliber.  

Barr on the other hand might be willing to do a real restructure.  He has 0 guarantees left on his deal, which means if the Vikings cut him he would go from making 12.5 or so a year to whatever a team in a cap strapped year, with him coming off an injury plagued season, is willing to pay him.  My guess is that number could be as low as 8 million per year with almost no guarantees.  

That means the Vikings are coming at him with some pretty good leverage and I am thinking they could offer him 3 years, 24 with 16 guaranteed and he takes it in a minute. However, I doubt the Viking would want to lock up that much in guarantees into him, so it ends up being more like 3 years 30 million with 8 million in signing bonus.  That could end up saving the Vikings a realistic 6 million on the cap this season.
