Just wanted to pull a few posts out from our support group thread:
- no call on Beebe getting his head taken off on a punt return
- no call on Cousins taking a crushing forearm to the head
- Harrison Smith yet another questionable "lowering the head" call
- Dantzler gets DPI when Evans slipped on what could have been a 100 yard pick-6, 2 plays after the Smith penalty
- first DPI on a hail mary since 2008
- longest 1 second in NFL history, or premature stoppage of the clock allowing the hail mary
- Beebe getting tackled on a crossing route before the ball arrived
- 9th game in a row an opponent hasn't drawn offensive holding
In favor of the Vikings
- Suh may or may not have jumped offsides on an insignificant play on the first drive of the game, which I'm sure Aikman is still talking about
I just watched it myself frame by frame. At 30 FPS, he spikes it at about the 15th frame, or literally with a half second to go. That's pretty quick reaction time by the clock operator. On the hail mary play, it takes an additional 19 frames for the clock to hit :00. So they're not nearly as quick at starting the clock as they are at stopping it.
But ask yourself, how often does the clock stop at :01 when it's still rolling that late? The ball is snapped and spiked in less than a second, 10 frames to be exact. You could probably argue it wasn't a spike, but a fumble. Can you "make a football move" in a third of a second? But the plot thickens, because the offense has to be set for at least 1 second or it's illegal motion. So how can you get set, and spike a football in half a second?
FTR: In the misleading video above, the spike hits the turf pretty much when the play clock hit 33 seconds, but it keeps rolling.
The play is at 5:16 in this video.

I never talk about officiating, but the calls/no calls in this game were horrendous at best, to the point where they potentially affected the outcome.
Even with a kicker who'd suddenly developed Tourette Syndrome in his right leg, we could've still won this game.
Each game is reviewed and graded for officiating blunders, it would be cool if just ONCE you had a referee come out and say "I kicked the sh*t out of that call" the way MLB umpire Jim Joyce did when he ruined Armando Galarraga's perfect game. But that's never going to happen, the NFL is never going to allow their refs to stand in front of a camera and talk to the media the way Joyce did. Still one of my all-time favorite moments in sports, BTW.
That, and Armando hugging him the next day causing him to break into tears.
They need Brady in the playoffs for t.v. ratings. I've seen enough of these screwjobs over the years that it's obvious. Complaining won't change things.
Okay, all this got me thinking. I don't believe the NFL rigs games completely, but sometimes, you have to wonder if they do try influence games a bit here or there for "TV Ratings". Everyone wants Brady and the Bucs in the playoffs, right? That's probably fair to say, but this late in the season, that isn't looking so hot, so they absolutely need to win. If it's a close game, more calls are going to go Tampa's way, right? Ask yourself on that Hail Mary, does a team like the Jags get that call? Panthers? Lions? No, because no one has even gotten that call for over a freaking decade, lol, so why all of the sudden in favor of Brady and the Bucs? Hmm. It really does make you wonder. And how many times have we seen Rodgers and the Packers get some bogus calls at crucial times? How many times have they effed over the Detroit Lions over the years? Sickening. Why do guys like Cousins, Newton, Trubisky, etc. take hits left and right and it goes uncalled, but if you look at Rodgers or Brees hard enough you get a penalty?!
Anyway, is this all nonsense? Confirmation bias? Butthurt fans? Or is there something to this "ratings" theory? At what point does the NFL care about "entertainment" and the "long game" enough to influence games? How far do you think they are willing to go? This always takes me back to 2009. Ugh, I hate going there, but I will for this thread. I think back to Katrina, New Orleans, Brees, that city ... blah blah blah. We hear it for every freaking primetime game, so yeah, we know. Celebrities coming out of the woodwork to "show their love for New Orleans" that year. Come on, the NFL wanted Katrina in the Super Bowl and we all know it. No one is EVER going to convince me otherwise. I'll post the video below if you want to go through that abuse again... I also go back to a conversation I had with a friend a few years later who lived in Mankato. She was friends with an NFL official who said that it got out that they were told to be hard on the Vikings because the NFL was still upset over the StarCaps nonsense (that wasn't resolved until a few years later, by the way, so there could be some truth to that). So, yeah, I have feelings about that game for all sorts of reasons: Bountygate, the HORRIBLE officiating, and then this conversation with a friend. So, it does make me wonder sometimes, WTF is going on here?!
Anyway, how far do you think this stuff goes? Or are we just losing it? If you do somewhat believe this, how does it impact your fanhood?
THIS IS GOD-DAMNED F*CKING BULLSH*T! JUST F*CKING DOWNRIGHT RIGGED BULLSH*T. F*CK THE NFL.
All the questionable things I remember in this game. All in favor of the Bucs. Reminded me a lot of the Cowboys game, 2009 NFCCG, and just about every Packers game. Anyone remember a game where the questionable calls were entirely in our favor? I'll wait. All I ask for is a little consistency with the bad calls.

I've watched this play a few times, that edit is extremely misleading considering you can't see Brady snap and spike the ball. The gameclock may have stopped a fraction of a second early, but it wasn't as egregious as some are making it to be

Hopefully Zimmer talks to the NFL about how the Vikings got screwed by the Refs. Its was pretty obvious.
