Come on man.
Teams completely changed the way they defended the Vikings once Cook started going off, and without him we might not have won more than 3 games last season. He is probably the biggest reason Rick, Zimmer and Cousins will still be with the Vikings 2021. Or is that what you mean by him not being worth his contract? That on this particular team, he is never going to be good enough to make us a SB team, but will make us too good for us to completely bottom out. I can see that argument.
He makes the Vikings better, and his contract is not any sort of impediment for the Vikings getting better. 17 million over the next two seasons, and then the Vikings can cut him and it only costs them 6 million in dead cap. For a guy who changes how defensive coordinators defend the Vikings, makes his QB, Oline, WRs and TEs better, that is a bargain.
How many playoff games did they win with a running back MVP? How many of those without Favre?
Every dollar has opportunity costs. Economics is the dismal science.
By this logic no player on the team is worth the contract they were given, since we didn't make the playoffs. No Vikings player has been, since none have won the SB.
Cook makes every player around him better. Mattison doesn't do that and neither does Boone. That is why he is worth every penny.
