I wasn't happy we lost in our first home game, but I didn't panic. Lots of teams have uncharacteristic Week 1 games. We'd bounce back against a team like the Colts ... and then we got worse. Yeah, i haven't pushed the panic button yet, but its clear Week 1 wasn't a bad day, there is definitely something wrong with these Vikings...
Were we all overly mesmerized by the dramatic win over the Saints in the playoffs? I'm pretty sure there was a pretty large movement to scrap Kirk Cousins before that game, which is showing to be a more accurate measurement of our team. Then all of Vikingsworld gets caught up in the emotion of Kirk's big "breakthrough" playoff win, and they sign him to this monster extension and no one objects, Spielman and Zimmer both get huge extensions. It's looking like that wild card win wasn't a breakthrough or a turning point at all, but merely the cause of the biggest managerial overreaction in the recent history of this franchise?
What is it? Is Zimmer overrated and never had it? has he lost the team? Is it just the offensive line which Spielman is just too damn complacent (did anyone else see the killer free agent lineman signed all over the league?) in building? Was it a mistake to drop all those veteran defenders? or did Spielman just fail to replace them? is our team just THAT rusty from no offseason? Has Zimmer's defense become predictable to offenses? Is this all just the reality of Kirk Cousins being a very average quarterback who's good for one Hall of Fame quarter every season or two? I really don't know what our problem is, but something is clearly wrong, and with Zimmer, Spielman, and Cousins all given massive extensions, there is no change on the horizon. Anyone?
