I don't think either the GM or coach is getting fired this offseason... and I have to think that even if people get fired I'm not certain Spielman will be one of them. You might be waiting a while on your QB.

you're both right... I think it's unlikely too if we're in the playoffs... especially with an owner who is content with the cheap hire at GM whom he has stuck with through everything..... however, that doesn't mean our owner is making the right choice.

I agree. The next three weeks have a lot riding on them beyond just the 2019 playoffs. If we slip down the stretch and get passed by the rams I don't see how you can keep the GM and coach. That would be 3 out of the last 4 years with no playoffs and that just isn't acceptable

I would tend to agree, but I don't think the problem is a lack of talent, which tells me that Rick should stay...

It might be impossible to know what the right move is at this moment. If Tua falls to the Vikings in the 2020 draft for injury concerns it would be pretty tempting to snag him and let him heal for Kirk's last season. If this doesn't happen and there are no QBs worth taking when the Vikings are on the clock, maybe it will be best to go BPA and consider extending Kirk. I'm with you on not giving Kirk a big raise though.

I'm not a big Cousins guy, but unless we are doing a big rebuild next year or 2, I'd rather stick with Cousins than see Rick panic again and overpay a FA. Or rely on a draft pick. He isnt good at QBs (or WRs, Diggs and Thielen fell in his lap).

What makes you think Kirk would be willing to take a discount?

History suggests otherwise. He didn't do it with Skins.

Yeah there‘a certainly no rush to talk extension with Kirk in order to get cap relief for 2020. I’m okay with playing out the last year of his contract as is.

Also, if Tua is there when the Vikes are on the clock I’m finding out if I can get a king’s ransom first before sprinting to the podium to select him.

Cousins isn't taking less than $28M in 2021 and on, not with the way he's played this year. He'd have to be pretty bad in 2020 to get a severe pay cut.

Teams are still desperate for a QB and will gobble up Cousins despite the potential downsides he has. If you let him hit FA, you'll need to offer him a competitive deal or he isn't coming back.
