I only made it through 3 quarters to be fair, but this is what I'm taking away from the game:
1) For a team that has dealt with as much adversity as they have over the last couple seasons, I'm really disappointed. The game was over after Keenum threw the pick 6. The score was tied, but the team gave up. I'm not really ready to blame Case for that just yet. He was hit as he threw in his first turnover and hit just as he was starting to throw in his second. But the defense looked putrid against what should have been an offense that they could shut down. Bottom line, they quit.
2) The OL play was still pretty bad. Spielman and company did a great job patching it up and giving us a workable OL last offseason, but the depth was lacking. Nick Easton's injury hurt a lot more than people realize I suspect, and the depth back there couldn't handle that. I really hope they continue to build on Oline play. It's the biggest weakness of this team still, and picking up a couple OL via draft and possibly one more via FA would be smart.
3) The D needs to do a better job generating turnovers. I'm not sure what the right answer here is, but they did great at shutting teams down, but they really needed a TO early in that game to energize the team. That has been lacking all season.
4) This was a good reminder why all the experts scream about franchise QBs... Once that lead hit two possessions, the desperation clock starts ticking and Keenum wasn't the guy to come back from that type of deficit. He had a good run, but it will be interesting to see what the plan is going forward. I suspect he gets a transition tag. I wonder if it makes more sense to go all in after Brees. I suppose Case still has some upside so to speak, but there's definitely a gamble here that he will continue to improve. He could also be putting up a 2013 Foles season...who knows. Brees is a sure thing and someone I would be very confident in being able to get the job done.
