The teams in it this season are:
Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Alabama.
It is strange that the BigTen didn't get a team in because their previously undefeated team, Wisconsin, lost the BigTen championship to the two-loss Ohio State.
Years ago, I proposed a playoff system that had eight teams. The champions of the Power Five conferences would get an automatic bid.
Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, USC, and Ohio State would have made it in.
The three other teams would be at large bids by ranking but must include the top ranked team from the FBS Group of Five, and no conference could have more than two teams included overall. If a conference has two teams, they could not face off against each other in the first round.
This years at large bids would be UCF, Alabama, and Wisconsin. Alabama could not play Georgia, and Wisconsin could not play Ohio State, in the first round.
It would be nice if the top three Group of Five conference winners made it, but they can't really compete with the Power Five teams at this time.
Having eight teams would make this an actual nation-wide playoffs. It would add more games that have stakes greater than just bowl win bragging rights.
