If someone told me last Saturday that the offense would only score 23 points, I'd have predicted a loss... and probably sizeable one.
I also think we need to remember that Detroit has a middling defense and that was worsened losing Hutch. I definitely expected more than 23 points out of the offense, and in all fairness, everyone and his brother knows Detroit's offense will put up some points against the best defense. They certainly did against us. I'm not thrilled about the 4 straight TDs, but the offense started sputtering first and it took too long to get back.
That's what happens when you're constantly chucking it long and not taking what the defense gives you. The worst part about it is that if we had a short passing game and did better with the running game (it was much improved this time, but Jones didn't do much the first half outside of that first run), those chunk plays will open up a bit more than they currently are. KOC needs to recognize the tools he has and stop drinking his own Kool-Aid.
Hock returning should be beneficial assuming he's somewhere close to 100 percent. I think Risner replacing Ingram should be a massive improvement too, but in my opinion there was no excuse for that performance even with those two out. KOC could have definitely done better with what he was working with. Ultimately, we lost by 2 points to one of (if not) the best team(s) in the league. The game could have been won, so I'm not losing sleep over a 5-1 record as long as they bounce back Thursday.
