QB of the future?

I didn't talk about blowing it up anywhere in there lol, I am talking about not overpaying one piece of the current puzzle when we already have a cheap option that this FO/Coach put alot into getting and seem to believe in. If anything I am saying not to blow up the original plan heading into the season due to some success early on. Last year after 2 games people were having discussions about paying up for Dobbs. Two years ago many bought into a 13-4 team that lost in the wild card round to a mediocre Giants team. In 2019 we extended a FO/Coach that were not working well together after a single playoff win. If you want to talk about why the Vikings have never won a SB it is not related to having a long term vision beyond the short term successes. 

When you have an above average type of QB who is very relianty on surrounding talent, paying up almost never works out because then you can't keep the talent and build off it with the extra resources. Our last QB had a lot of fans and some used the idea that this team would fall off huge without him as a reason to keep paying up, look where we are now the following season without even gaining the full cap possible. Is the idea here that Darnold is massively better than Kirk to make it worth it this time around? 

At the end of the day this team is primed to take advantage of the QB rookie contract and building up an elite cast around them for the first time in a while. If Darnold leads this team to the brink of a SB and plays at an elite level the rest of the season including playoffs there is more reason to have this discussion than after 4 games, I can acknowledge that. There simply is no reason to believe that this success is overly reliant on Sam Darnold given everything we know, even before the season many called this the best situation for a young QB to come to. The defense has been better than the offense. Darnolds history further supports he is reliant on the cast around him in many ways. You don't blow up the plan and great situation we have set up to overpay for Darnold given all of that is the point. 

It’s not about any QB though. I mean Shanahan took a bust too. It’s about getting the right guy for your system though. Sam don’t have nothing JJ doesn’t have nothing. So it’s not unreasonable to feel he could have success.

You can’t take anyone ,but similar skill sets usually keep you hitting at a reasonable rate. It’s not we saying he can take Mullens and do that. Mullens has limitations. JJ physically can do all that’s required for n KO system.

Y’all need to stop overreacting Sam by most was seen as broken. If it was so easy to do Sam would have did it before now. At the same time be weary of a big jump 7 years in. Super jumps like that can be an aberration. So I am enjoying now and see what happens going forward.

Thank you.  Sums up my thoughts better than I could. I'd add that Mahomes wasn't as good by own standards last year, so I wonder if less talent around him due to that massive contract is starting to take a toll. 

I would say, however, the main reason we're 4-0 is that defense KAM assembled this offseason. 4th quarter of the Packer's game aside, they've been elite.  

But tier 2 play for backup money is huge surplus value, and it allowed them to put a team (minus RG) around him. 

Didn't we just trade up one spot in the draft to get him? That's not really "a lot."

That’s a piece but I was speaking to the full context of what lead to that.

Based on what has been said KOC has been studying QBs coming out for years and became known as “qb killer” within organization for saying no to other options since being here. The decision to move on from Kirk and gain ammo in this draft to ensure they could get a guy they really liked this year. Then as you mention trading up to get him, even if only one spot. That’s still the only time in franchise history any FO has picked one in the top 10. That’s not to mention the supposed detailed plan created for said drafted qb as well.

To me everything is aligning for this team to attempt and get a loaded roster around a rookie qb contract (with all of that included in getting their guy and having a plan around him).
