I am leaving the porch light open though but it would take pretty much a Bowl appearance to change my mind on perhaps keeping Sam.

Otherwise tag and trade if that’s possible.

It's one of those good problems. I hope McCarthy is better. Darnold kind of reminds me of Alex Smith. He's decent and can have good seasons with the right coaches, but I'm not sure he can get over the hump if the other team can hit him and frustrate his coach or him. He's a borderline all pro right now, but also we know not all of it is 100% him. He is flourishing in KO's system.

I'm hoping it continues. Sunday afternoon was a challenge and Darnold did pass, albeit the shades of his past came out too.

Unless we hoisting up the Lombardi that seems like the best path.

Trick up?

It's an idiom meaning "to improve". Though apparently it has to do more with attractiveness and clothing, now that I look at the definition.

The point is that Darnold needed to be put into this environment with great coaching, weapons, and OL to get this level of play from him, so go find another young QB who has been labeled a bust for cheap to be the emergency plan in case something happens to McCarthy.

That’s what I see. Now Sam has tools but I still have questions in the clutch. Now what I’m about to say is an opinion, it’s not a concrete thought so I understand not agreeing. I just feel that’s what can make JJ better. He more athletic JJ but I feel he has more of a it factor too.

Just my gut so that don’t mean im right. I just don’t see JJ feeling hopeless and saying I saw ghost. Definitely not in public. So I like Sam but he has been broken before. Good problem to have.

Now we gotta avoid the 2016 season with another Sam. Then from there see what he does when it matters in the playoffs.

That all depends on what tag were used. I doubt using the transition tag would result in us having to match a huge, multi-year contract. But you don't know until you're there. Also, we're only four games into the Sam experiment. That said, if he continues to play at a top ten level and wins a playoff game or two, I would have no problem committing to one more year at a high cost. We have spent stupider money.

So this is where I think some are getting a bit too high on O'Connell. Now he's a guy who can resurrect the careers of MULTIPLE busted QBs? We should acquire Zach Wilson and Trey Lance ASAP if KOC can turn them into great QBs on demand!!

Credit to O'Connell, but this is lightning in a bottle. If you bet it can be replicated, that's...well, damn unlikely. That's also why it will be pretty gutsy if it continues all season and the Vikings walk away from him.
