Let's take a look at how the Redskins stack up.
And the injury reports:
Wow, now that is a lot of guys on the questionable side of things! The Redskins are coming into this game banged up and the Vikings need to take advantage of that.
-My thoughts-
The Redskins have assembled a solid team that can challenge for the playoffs every season but they don't quite seemed to be fit for a deep playoff run. The offense just isn't what it was last season - losing Garcon and Jackson at WR were huge blows, and the crew of Pryor, Doctson, and Crowder needed to step up in their places. So far... they've been disappointing, especially Terrelle Pryor who was fantastic last season for the Browns even with the likes of Josh McCown and Cody Kessler throwing passes to him (well, maybe McCown isn't that bad), but he's somehow devolved into a pumpkin. Doctson was my personal favorite WR prospect in the 2016 draft, and he just so happened to get drafted one pick ahead of the Vikings, who'd go on to draft Treadwell. Doctson's rookie season never got off the ground due to an Achilles injury, but he's starting to take off now.
The Redskins don't have much for a run game... Rob Kelley is a good short-yardage runner, and that's about it. He'll probably average 2 to 3 yards a carry. Chris Thompson is a top 5 receiving HB but the Vikings have locked down basically all receiving HBs thanks to Kendricks and Barr.
It's hard to say who's going to be playing on the Redskins' O-line, but we can only hope that TJ Clemmings will be starting at LT. If so, Everson Griffen should record a pressure on most passing downs. Their only other weakness there is LG Shawn Lauvao, who hasn't been an effective player in years.
The Redskins have had to endure injuries to their DL and LB corps - ILB Mason Foster, DE Matt Ioannidis, ILB Su'a Cravens, and DL Jonathan Allen are all out or on the IR. If the Vikings can't establish the running game, they'll be in trouble because Ryan Kerrigan and crew will be blitzing frequently - and ILB Zach Brown had a monster game pass-rushing wise against the Seahawks last week.
Washington's secondary is solid, but CB Bashaud Breeland sticks out like a sore thumb. He reminds me of Trae Waynes - he's made some nice plays in coverage in the small amount of time I've seen him, but then he gets roasted every other week. On another note, CB Kendall Fuller has quietly been one of the league's best nickel corners. Finally, the Redskin safeties are OK but Keenum should not hesitate to try and beat them deep.
Any thoughts?
