Lets try this again. The Vikings invested more draft capitol in JJ McCarthy than any other QB in the team's history, and after his first four years will hopefully be looking to make him the highest paid QB in franchise history as well. Before we get to that point, what does JJM need to do to earn a contract in your eyes? A little early for this I admit, but it would be good to get it writing now since it seems that expectations can rise or fall throughout the years depending on how a QB's career is going.
For me I would like to see him making the playoffs multiple times before making him the highest paid player in the NFL (which is what you need to do now to retain a QB after their rookie deal). With the talent around him he should also be putting up top 10, if not top 5 numbers while winning football games by the end of year 3. It would still be a gamble at that point since just making the playoffs is not good enough, but this would be in hopes that he turns those playoff appearances into playoff wins. If he has the Vikings as a legit Super Bowl contender by year 3, I probably would want the Vikings to work out a deal prior to his fourth season.
Note, the Sam Darnold expectations poll was a disaster and I think I have learned my lesson. Some people believe team success plays no part in what is considered a successful season or even career for a QB, so there are non-win related options for those folks.
