So my two boys surprised the old man, and secretly came down Friday from the Twin Cities to attend my sixtieth B-Day. We all gathered at a place in Salina Kansas called Tucson's a little family owned steak house. Of course my boy's are packer fans poor parenting I guess. There were my three kids and their spouses and the five grand kids and last remaining Aunt. We were all enjoying our drinks and meal and getting caught up on stuff when the shift manager comes up and starts harassing the boy's with all their packer gear. She hands them a note and says read it out loud.
I am paraphrasing the letter but this is what was on it. " I see there are some packer fans at the table. I'd like to buy dinner for everyone. Keep rooting for the greatest team in the world. Sincerely Rich Campbell first round draft choice QB 1981 packers"... How cool?
And of course he instructed the manager to not give us the note until he left. There were fourteen of us and the kids only had to pay six bucks for the extra beer I had, he covered tip and all. There was guy and his wife watching us and he came up later and said he wanted to see our reaction as he was sitting with Rich and waited to see.
I almost wore my Viking hat but decided not too, he probably would have said everyone but that guy but that would have been even cooler in my eyes, anyway neat story lots of good people out there. Rich was the sixth overall pick that year never panned out for him in four seasons but he is winner in Life wish I could thank him myself.....
