This time of year is always fun with the speculation of what our beloved Vikings will do in the draft. We all have our ideas and desires with what we would like to see with those picks. Of course the "mockers" on various outlets are all pretty much in lock and step with MIN swapping the 11 & 23 picks (some adding '25 1st) to move up to take a QB. Fair enough.

Thinking outside the box and to take away from the same ole stale "predictions" from talking heads, I thought it might be interesting, and even fun, to see what everyone's craziest, wildest draft idea(s) might be. So here is mine.

MIN swaps the #11 and Jordan Addison to AZ for the #4. MIN then makes a blockbuster trade with the Chargers, sending the #4 and Justin Jefferson for the #5 and Justin Herbert.

The Chargers select JJ McCarthy at 4. Their offensive M.O. will be to run the ball more (OC ranks last in passes most of his years in the NFL). They rid themselves of a big, pass-first QB contract, while getting their game manager under center and the bonafide WR threat in JJ.

MIN selects Marvin Harrison, Jr with the #5, which fills the JJ void with a rookie contract at WR1. The Vikings get their franchise QB (26 yo) that has a contract through '29, and that contract is more friendly in spreading out the yearly cap hits then anything they could ever get with Cousins. The 23 is still in the back pocket and could grab DeJean, Thomas Jr, Robinson, Murphy (doubtful), Newton, Barton, or Powers-Johnson, or just trade back for more picks.

AZ gets a their great, now established WR in Addison and could go high-end D or grab someone like Bowers.

That's about as crazy as I could get. SKOL!

We might be surprised at Darnold's record if we have an actual defense. However, I still prefer taking the Best QB available at 11.

Trading two second round picks (one
being next years) to stay put at 23 in no man's land with no guaranteed target. Then to stay put at 11 with 4 top tier QBs for a QB needy team that won't be there for pick 11. Then picking another position at 11 where the talent just isn't great outside of wide receiver and QBs that will be gone.

Not to mention 2025 QB pool is poor to put it nicely. To squander the best chance at identifying a QB for a few measly draft picks in a top heavy QB class to only have to do the exact same thing in 2025 with less talent and the same cost associated.

To yet again take a mediocre QB hoping it will finally be the one.

Trades do seem fun. On the NFL Stock Exchange they had a couple of guests and they did a mock with Player Trades on Tuesday. The Bengals moved Tee Higgins and the Jags moved Burns (boy did that episode age fast).

I'm not trading Darrisaw. The money JJ will command makes trading him for anything other than pennies on the dollar unrealistic. So it's gotta be Addison. He's eminently replaceable with equal or better talent in just about every Draft.

So how about this wild one? Trade Addison to the Chiefs for 32 & 64. KC needs one desperately with the arrest of Rashee Rice and Skyy Moore being a bust and Toney being Toney. Do the deal with Arizona to get to #4 WITHOUT including the '25 1st. I kicked them a 4th (#108) and got #90 back. Include the '25 3rd if you need to in order to satisfy the 'QB Tax'.

But we as armchair GMs need to remember that we likely aren't bidding against the Giants. We're bidding against the opportunity the Cardinals have to take an Elite Wide Receiver. There are 3 in this Class and none will likely make it to #11. #11 and #23 should normally be enough to get it done. But Arizona already has a boatload of picks including in the Top 100. Tinker at the peripheral of the deal and use anything from '25 but that first. But also realize the only way the Giants take McCarthy is if he falls to #6 AND Harrison and Nabers go #4 & #5 AND they are lower on Odunze.

The Broncos and Raiders don't have the ammo to compete without doing something stupid. So don't bid yourself up. But also be ready to jump to #8 if the Cards stand firm on what they want and McCarthy slides by the Giants.

At #32 I still had the opportunity to snag Jer'Zhan Newton. More realistic would be Darius Robinson but you never know.

Use the 2nd Round Pick you got from KC to replace Addison. Polk, Pearsall, Leggett and Corley are all possible options.

And the late 3rd from the Cards was Christian Mahogony for LG. So I got my potential QBOTF, Day 1 Starters at IDL and LG and replaced Addison with a player that isn't much different from him in terms of upside. I also double dipped at WR later in the Draft: Isaiah Williams and Luke McCaffrey.

And added a big CB in Nehemiah Pritchett and a bellcow RB in Isaiah Davis. Boomies!

I wouldn't trade Addison for 32 and 64. We already hit very well on that pick. If last year were redrafted Addison could easily go top 10. I agree with almost everything else you had to say.

Not exactly crazy, quite possible.....trade 11 and 23 to the Titans for 7 and 38. But we don't trade to get a QB there, we take Rome Odunze at 7 and his QB Penix is available at 38.

The crazy part this year seems to be...the pundits have QBs 3-6 all over the place, so we have NO idea where TEAMS actually have them. For that matter, we don't know where teams have Daniels, either. There's some of this every year, but it's not usually this wide a variance with this many QBs.
