As a generalization I suppose that could be true, however there are people who spend a lot of time trying to predict these things, NFL people in particular. If any attempt to predict who'll be good wasn't made because it's allegedly impossible, then I suppose the Bears could just take Rattler at #1 overall, because, "nobody knows". Which is kind of like buying lottery tickets and calling it a strategy.

Well if as you claim, nobody knows what's going to happen to an NFL player as his career progresses, then I'm not sure we can say with certainty that Brett Favre wouldn't have had a great career in Atlanta. We don't know how circumstances might have affected him had he stayed there.

Nope. Their coaches. Although they did change OC this year. This is Fields numbers from Ohio State. But I'm sure people here will say he did something or another and that's why he didn't make it. He was 20-2 at Ohio State. Bad coaching screws more QBs in the NFL than anything else. BTW, compare those to William's numbers in the last two years. I feel for whoever the Bears draft.

But bear in mind that predicting Williams will go bust is predicting, i.e. the thing you are saying is impossible. Predicting the future is hard but that won't stop teams from trying, they have no other option in the draft process.

In Justin Fields' case you believe the NFL coaches were to blame for his lackluster play. That would be (2021) HC Nagy, OC Lazor, and QB coach DeFilippo. In 2022 and 2023 it was HC Eberflus, OC Getsy, and QB coach Janocko.

Of course they don't. But compare them to the presumed top pick in the 2024 draft and his numbers in his last year. Since we want to go all in on ability. Fields is taller, and dare I say just as Athletic as Williams. But he Williams will make a difference in Chicago. I give him a 25% chance of success in Chicago.

I won't speak to the numbers quoted, but something Eberflus said after the bye week in 2022 along the lines of installing a system that fit Field's strengths... That was a WTF moment, which you can look me up making fun of him in the game thread and multiple threads here ever since. That's how you set a QB up to fail.

You know else you do it? Putting a pile of *poop*

around a rookie QB and excepting him to elevate the guys around him... Fields didn't exactly have a decent cast. I'm not saying the guy was the next best thing since sliced bread, but seriously, the guy was set up to fail.

Justin Fields problem isn't bad circumstances it's his inability to process at NFL speed and find open guys. I saw this in his OSU video pre-draft and said stay far away. I also said hey Chicago, grab that guy!

You would think Eberflus and his OC Getsy would have been working on installing a system in February of 2022 not in December. After only 2 seasons Poles and Eberflus fired the entire offensive coaching staff. Good luck Shane Waldron.
