It hasn't been done but neither has a team trading up to 10 like the Chiefs did for Mahomes and getting 3 SB's and counting as far as I know. The QB position has increased in value compared to the history of the league with all of the rule changes etc. today. There are constantly going to be new examples of QB's being drafted/paid. Mahomes is now the only example in history of a QB taking the top cap hit in the league and winning a SB after this last season.
That's why as I was saying the key is getting it right. There are 6 QB's with 1st round grades or close to it from many. There will not be that many elite QB's from this draft. 3 firsts to ensure you get the elite one is worth it. At the end of the day that is how it will be judged is if that QB is elite or not. One extra first like the chiefs or two like we might do. An extra first wouldn't have changed how valuable Mahomes is to the Chiefs.
Well it does ensure something, just not necessarily that they will be elite. I would agree in terms of end result it ensures nothing but with that you could argue just waiting until udfa makes sense for the qb position because there are no guarantees…
It would potentially ensure that we get a qb we believe will be elite though. That’s what I was really trying to say. If we believe there is an elite prospect likely to end up as a franchise qb it could ensure we land them. There was no guarantee the trade up for Mahomes would work, the chiefs believed the move ensured them the best chance though. That’s what I was saying for us too essentially.
