They have an extra 3rd.
From a DT perspective, yes, the DT's you can get at #74 (possible Michael Hall, Jr., possibly Maason Smith, Ruke Orhorhoro, Brandon Dorlus-who I don't like at all, BTW) aren't as good as Jer'Zhan Newton who could be available at the back end of Rd 1 if you "stick" at #11 and keep #23, but I do think the DT's in the top half of Rd 3 could possibly be as good as Newton in a few years when we're hopefully going to compete for something and you get an additional Top 80 pick for another position of need (IOL, WR3, possibly CB and maybe EDGE like Jonah Ellis). You could even trade back from that #79 pick to the end of Rd 3 and pick up more capital on Day 3 to really flesh out the roster.
I do think Atlanta might have to kick-in something else on top of those two, Rd 3 picks, too because the "QB tax" of moving up from #11 to #8 is only 50 pts and if you subtract that from the pt value of #23 (which is 245 pts), the two 3rd Rd picks Atlanta has (121 pts total), we're still looking at a gap of 74 pts, so Atlanta might kick-in an extra 6th this year...
The only "wrinkle" in that scenario you mentioned was WR's going #4 thru #6, as I'm still not seeing Harbaugh and Ortiz going WR there at #5 when they want OT or a trade down. I'm wondering if someone else trades with LAC for Odunze at #5.
The scenario I read was #11, #108 & #129 for #8 and #79. And Peters is calling the shots, albeit with heavy influence from Harbaugh. But this is his first shot. Just like with Wolf at #3. It's hard to trade down when a True Blue Chip Player at an unquestionable Position of Need is staring you in the face. In this case there are two.
Nabers vs. Alt. But the Bolts have Slater already at LT. Whom I badly wanted. Alt seems like a waste at RT. Especially when there are guys that are more road grader types in the run game that are more pure RTs like Fuaga & Latham.
So Nabers vs. trading back and getting a non-True Blue Chip Player. Man, that's a tough sell to pass on what would easily be WR1 in 90% of most Draft Classes in order to take a Right Tackle.
I'm starting to warm up to the idea of calling the Giants bluff at #6. LAC isn't trading back with Denver or LV in the same division much like the Bears aren't trading #9 to the Vikings to take a shot at the QBOTF.
If I'm the Titans I'm not getting cute and passing on Alt.
Atlanta seems like a legit trade partner. The Bears might take a Defender. But the Jets won't. So the Dirty Birds still have 2 of their 3 highest rated Defenders available at worst.
And Minnesota has #23 and #79. Trade back a bit from #23 and you're still in Graham Barton or Chop Robinson territory. There are IOL and Edge Options at #79. McCarthy and two impact Players in the Top 80 would be nice to dream about.
