I agree about the Wilfs tenure here but the same can be said about Kirks too. I believe it is the 6th worst 6 year stretch throughout franchise history in terms of playoff success. There was recently a thread covering it in comparison to our history.
This hasn't been a one person issue at any point though and I don't think anyone solely blamed Kirk (at least no one ever gives a real example when asked). Many that wanted to move on from Cousins largely blamed the Wilfs, by most accounts they were pushing to keep him before even hiring this regime to stay "super competitive". Keeping Kirk here so long just to end up where we are now is on the Wilfs and part of why they deserve blame for how things have been handled.
At the end of the day we need to be smarter about how we construct the roster and when we are pushing in on a window to compete. Wilfs need to hire better and hold the people they do hire accountable for their actions (how long was Rick given?). We can't be forced into a direction that will obviously lead to 4 years of mediocrity just because they are scared of being really bad. Hopefully this is the fresh start that changes our approach and it comes with much better drafting.
Which is why I question the idea of burning draft picks to move up in the draft. Especially if we trade up and still get the 2nd best QB in our division in the draft. That doesn’t seem logical but maybe fans aren’t thinking things through. As usual.
I don't think we need to force anything in the draft. The only way you trade up for a pick like that is if you feel you have that elite guy available. At 11 you don't need to be quite as certain but still don't need to pick one just to pick one if you don't trust the player. As much as I want that rookie QB to build around, next year shouldn't be a priority. If we can get an amazing draft class around the QB position it sets us up to potentially move up next year for our guy as a final piece (and sets up those future picks we give to be worse too) .
I don't think there is ever one specific way a team needs to be built. I just want us to finally have a plan that makes some sense and COULD set us up to get there. Drafting a QB is part of that but I don't like the idea of forcing it. Luckily this is a good class giving us multiple possible routes.
