Worst case scenario is Darnold plays like Sam Bradford in 2018, and JJ looks like Josh Rosen when Darnold is benched.
2nd worst case scenario is Darnold plays like Bradford in 2016, just good enough to not get benched in the worst Vikings offense since 2010, and we never see JJ.
I know some Vikings fans enjoy watching a QB put up mediocre numbers in a bad offense on route to sub .500 football, and are under the impression that a rookie getting no meaningful playtime is a good thing, but both really are a negative.
Shouldn't have to say that but there you go.
If the 2nd worst case scenario happens, I'll be very disappointed considering the weapons he has at his disposal.
So I'm hoping the "3rd worst case scenario" happens and Sam plays very well (well enough to get another starting job elsewhere) and JJ never sees the field (the "worst case scenario" for those wanting to see him sooner) until 2025.
Playing just well enough to get a contract somewhere else is a terrible option as well. Like if he has a year similar to Mayfield's last year or Cousins the past 6 seasons? That isn't even good enough to make the playoffs in this division and with this schedule, but it is good enough to keep JJ off the field.
I think that is a realistic scenario too, just not a good scenario for the Vikings.
