It's pretty funny reading these reactions after the last 6 years lol. Now it's easier to laugh about. Seems like every fan base would have the same reactions to Kirk ranging all over the place. There will always be these discussions following him. He is an enigma.

One thing is for sure, most seem to acknowledge he has one of if not the best agents in the league. They have done a fantastic job maximizing his salary over his career. All fans seem to agree on that aspect.

I am happy we are no longer the ones that need to fight over if signing/keeping him is worth it or not. The window is officially closed with two playoff appearances and one playoff win over 6 years. I wouldn't be surprised if that's about what the Falcons are able to do over the next 4 seasons with him.

Not sure if this was mentioned anywhere, but another aspect of Kirk's new contract with Atlanta is that it does contain a "no-trade clause", so if it's not working out after the first 2 years, the Falcons can't just trade him without his "Ok" - they would need to release him and eat some dead cap.

If I was Atlanta, I would be drafting their QBOTF in the 2025 Draft (or possibly in the 2024 Draft on Day 2/3 if they like someone enough to develop). The dead cap hit for Atlanta to release him after Yr 2 is only $25m, and if they draft someone in 2025 and then dump Kirk in the 2026 offseason, they have someone ready to go for 2026. The Vikings weren't able to draft that QBOTF behind Kirk before they moved on, and they've given the Falcons the roadmap of what "not to do"...

I'm rather enjoying reading Florio beating the drum on the Falcons and tampering. I know he's a Vikings fan so he's a bit biased here... but it would be kind of funny if we ended up with some of their future draft capital over it.

First post in several days, I had surgery on Monday and have mostly been out of commission since then. I'm glad to see it's over and we can move towards a future. I know some may be unsettled with the unknown, but I find it exciting. It helps to see that it looks like we got a nice crop of guys to come in and buff the defense a bit, still have work to do but it looks like steps in a new exciting direction.

Thanks! I'm doing about as well as can be expected. Everything went good, it was just a rough couple of days where I was zonked out of my mind to the point of not having energy to pick up my phone and post.

Regarding Kirk, I'm glad the offer was so huge and so fast to come through. It really removed any doubt and takes the Vikings off the hook. There's no way they could responsibly match that kind of deal where they are at right now.

Oh boy, so you're saying it's everyone elses fault? We're just going to ignore the top talent WR's he's had his entire career? The top 5 defense he squandered when he first got here? Kirko fans just expect everything to be perfect for him in every aspect, like that's realistic? You have no expectations for him to overcome any of the problems that every QB has to deal with? Kirk is that rare specimen that can put up impressive stats in the process of not winning. It's easy to got lost in the numbers and miss the nuances of what makes him a loser.

Instantly the best QB in the NFC South and should be favorites to win the division.

He may not be a championship QB, but you can certainly win a lot of games with Kirk Cousins as your quarterback.

He is trash , older and coming off of an Achilles injury. Send pressure up the middle and he will fall like a baby. Saints do better against traditional QBs than a running one.

I think we need to pump the brakes on calling Cousins the best…36 years old coming off an Achilles is no picnic.

Let's put a bit of perspective in this thread.

Cousins is a good QB, but he isn't and hasn't been a bigtime talent in the league.

He has a 78-70-2 record in his career, which is respectable, and he's 1-4 in playoff games, which isn't good.

He's 16-47 (.254) against teams with a winning record in his career.

And he's coming off a major injury as well, plus he'll turn 36 in Training Camp.

The world isn't ending because the Falcons signed him.

Yeah that about sums it up.

You'll never guess who he beat for that one playoff win LOL.

The Falcons didn't just sign Tom Brady.
Kirk Cousins is a decent, mid-tier QB in the NFL.

He had JJ, far and away the best WR in the league, and looked below average nearly all the time. London and Pitts are no JJ lol.

After watching him on the QB series on Netflix last year, I just grew to like the guy. Super nice, kind person. Just a good dude.

Now I hate him.

Cousins has been in the right place at the right time in his career to make serious bank. I'd rate him as a good, but not great QB, but his last two contracts have been way above his skill level.

As for going to Atlanta, I'm worried about the weapons he has to work with. He's a good fit for them, but compared to the other options - getting one of the top rookies (which is doubtful now) or even Fields, I'm less concerned with this move. Especially with the capital they invested in him.

The NFC South will be an interesting race.

Seems like most of the talking heads on ESPN are already handing the 2024 NFCS title to Captain Kirk and the Dirty Birds! However, Stephen A added a bit of a reality check by pointing out that Dak Prescott has more playoff victories than Captain Kirk LOL. The Bucs are the NFCS Champs until they are dethroned! What say you?

Cousins is 1-2 against the Bucs, and I wouldn't expect more from him his first year than the Bucs are gonna get outta The Baker Man in his second year.

Kirk is a top 10 QB by all metrics hovering around 7-10 consistently. You can win a SB with that kind of QB Play.

Having said ALL of this, Kirk, like the Falcons, has a reputation of choking when it matters. So either it's a match made in meme heaven for everyone but the Falcons, or their anti-clutchness cancels each other out and they are actually good.

Kirk is Matt Ryan with clutch factor. The Falcons will be a good team this year for sure.

I have a feeling the falcons will be regretting this contract by this time next year

Provided Cousins can stay healthy I think the bigger question mark is Raheem Morris. We already know Dennis Allen can't coach. If Morris can, then they could definitely win the division with 9 or 10 wins.

That division is pretty weak. I wouldn't be surprised if Atlanta won 3 more games and took it with ease and then went 1 and done in the playoffs. Their QB play was a pretty big hindrance. Kirk will be an upgrade over Ritter. They don't have the skill position players at WR that we do, but I'd imagine Kirk can make Pitts look better and their running game is better.

The downside is that Kirk hasn't figured out how 4/180 keeps that team from putting talent around him.
