In all honesty, they should be tired of paying 40M+ period. I'll grant you a Mahomes maybe, but even Rodgers is not even close to worth what he got. Brady at least could step up, but I'd argue a big part of his value was constantly being underpaid. It really helped that Tom always had better talent around him. Tom understood that the other sources of income were a lot better when you had lots of rings in your fingers, and taking sizeable haircut on your NFL salary made a world of difference...

But I'll say what I've said before. QB may be the most important position in the game, but it's not 40+M for Kirk Cousins important. Period. Teams are doing it wrong when they are paying those kinds of salaries for QBs. I don't hate Kirk for taking those kinds of offers, but teams need to reign in the spending. Ritter might not have been the answer there, but I'd bet they could have gotten a lot further with Flacco or Tannehill on a fraction of what they will have to pay Cousins. Would Cousins outperform those two? Sure.  Would he do so by the 30some million that he's likely going to get because in his mind the dollars command respect?  I doubt it. That money would be better spent on one or two more impact players.
