I'd argue we are recovered at this point. We have 40M free right now and will get a lot more when Smith is addressed with a number north of 150M next season. Kwesi has made some mistakes, but I'm pretty sure this competitive rebuild came from ownership, and he's got to comply there. I'm not going to disagree if you would have said rip off the band-aid in 2023. It wouldn't have been a bad approach, but like it or not ownership wasn't onboard there.
This offseason, to me at least, will be the real test of Kwesi's skills, because we have some holes that will need to be filled, and presumably Kirk will be walking (which I think you want), so QBOTF it should be. He's only going to get maybe 3 starters in 24 via the draft, and that's a rosy outlook, so this year we should be spending some of that money.
Remember, we have no starting LG, QB, no starting OLBers, missing 1 starting DI, missing 1 starting S, a #1 RB, a #3 WR, and a kicker. 2025 has the cap space to sign all the free agents we need, but we are still hurting in 2024.
True but I would hope also a few drafted guys. So if we can land 3 high level free agents plus project two starters instant round 1 and 2 that’s a solid start. Plus a few other at least depth in the draft. We might could still be around 8 wins or so.
I don’t expect to to much this year either way. We don’t have to be sorry but we not Super Bowl ready yet. Set that up compete and show progress throughout and finish things off next offseason with a window for 2025 on. That’s my vision but hitting on talent and continue to develop what we have will be important to stay on the timeline I envision.
