True but I would hope also a few drafted guys. So if we can land 3 high level free agents plus project two starters instant round 1 and 2 that’s a solid start. Plus a few other at least depth in the draft. We might could still be around 8 wins or so.

I don’t expect to to much this year either way. We don’t have to be sorry but we not Super Bowl ready yet. Set that up compete and show progress throughout and finish things off next offseason with a window for 2025 on. That’s my vision but hitting on talent and continue to develop what we have will be important to stay on the timeline I envision.

We could do more than 3 high priced FA, since we have more than 150M next season. Most of the high priced ones won't count much against this year, which does make for an easy way to be competitive with a QBOTF. The defense could get a quick shot of adrenaline.

Nothing stops us from starting this year.

I meant the dead cap we are spending on 2022 and 2023 mistakes is enough to pay 3 high priced free agents. Probably 3 of the top 10 free agents in this year's free agent crop.

And yes, we will borrow cap from 2025 to pay for 2024, continuing to push cap hits that should have been absorbed in 2022 or 2023 even further out. Hopefully for players who are actually going to contribute in 2025, a significant shift from what we have been doing.

yeah, this is gamesmanship. We'll be eating dead cap this year in one way or another. The good news is we can eat a crap ton of it and still have 40ish M to spend. We can re-sign Hunter and extend a bit of it. I think there's wisdom in taking most of that medicine this year, especially if the Kirk hype right now is true. We've got some insane cap flexibility coming up if Kirk walks. It's a great time to go QBOTF and finish the reset.

Just pick a decent one. The offense is already pretty good. Trust that Flores can build a decent defense.

Other ways the Vikings can create more cap in 2024:

- the most obvious is by releasing Harrison Smith; it could be $11m+ immediately or $15m+ if they designate him a post-June 1st release. If he decides to hang 'em up because he doesn't want to be part of a "reset year", then the retirement is still treated like a release

- extend Justin Jefferson; currently has a $19m cap hit on his 5th yr option and any extension would likely reduce that to less than $10m for 2024

- extend Byron Murphy and/or Harrison Phillips; it wouldn't be a ton, but if they like one or both they could extend them by a few years to keep them on the roster and lower their 2024 cap; in Murphy's case they would likely need to do this before the $4.5m of his 2024 base salary becomes fully guaranteed on 3/16

- convert some of O'Neil's $14.4m base salary into a signing bonus to lower 2024 cap hit

- release Bradbury before 3/16 when $4.65m of his 2024 base salary becomes guaranteed

They still have some moves they can make if they need any add'l room if they need more after the details of those contracts are known (extend Harrison Phillips, extend Byron Murphy, converting O'Neil's base salary, extend Jefferson, etc.)

While this wouldn't save any money against the 2024 cap, one move I would consider is extending Cam Bynum to a similar deal (inflation-adjusted, of course) as Josh Metellus received last offseason. One reason is that is solidifies the S position for the next few years in-line w/ the Van Ginkel/Cashman/Greenard deals (next 3 years) and that it also solidifies his contract in case the S market creeps up in market price next offseason: the RB & ILB market were a bit more expensive this offseason, and we all know the IOL & DT markets have exploded in the last few offseasons.

^That $16.9m cap # for the Vikings comes from OTC (link) and still doesn't take into effect the contracts of Greenard, Van Ginkel, Bullard, Aaron Jones or Harrison's paycut.

Spotrac (link) has our 2024 Rookie Cap Pool # currently between $8m-$12m (and that's without trading up), depending on how the Top 51 cap #'s work out, so assuming we're currently at approx $17m in cap space heading into the Draft, we'll have enough to sign our rookies and to go into the season with a few million for PS-call ups and that's it...

If we want to sign more depth, it's likely we may need to create a bit more space.

Smith has void years, so that extension will push some of his dead cap into next year as well. I don't think Greenard will hit the cap too hard this season given he had a huge signing bonus. Jones could be all this year though unless they used void years.

From the looks of it, Brandel's contract isn't right either.
